1. The Government Property Index
The NSW Government has made certain data regarding government-owned properties freely available to the public through the Government Property Index. The NSW Government has done this as part of its commitment to open data and to allow members of the public to put forward proposals on how Government-owned land might be used to deliver an economic stimulus to counter the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
On a ‘best endeavours’ basis, the Government Property Index provides basic information (Lot/Section/Plan, address, area, zoning and Local Government Area) on NSW Government -owned properties across NSW. However, this does not include properties owned by State Owned Corporations or those that have been assessed as ‘sensitive’. ‘Sensitive properties’ include those whose publication would give rise to safety, security or individual privacy concerns.
2. Limitations on Data
There are several limitations on the data in the Government Property Index, including:
- Some properties comprise of lots only partly owned by the NSW Government. In these cases, the entire lot will be displayed in the search results and in the map view as NSW Government-owned land.
- Each property’s area is calculated ‘geometrically’ (and not as may have been reported from surveying).
- Data may not be available on all NSW Government-owned properties. Data entries in the Government Property Index will be updated monthly. As a consequence, additional NSW Government properties will be added over time and there may be a delay when changes in ownership are reflected in the Government Property Index.
- Properties in the National Park portfolio and Crown Lands portfolio are displayed as a layer on the ePlanning Spatial Viewer, but will only appear in search results in the Government Property Index where the property has a Lot/DP.
