I write this submission to the department of Planning and Environment to formally object to all aspects of the proposal of the expansion and change of operation of the Martins Creek Quarry.
The townships of Martins Creek, Paterson and surrounding areas are historic towns of great importance in the story of Australia's exploration and colonisation and because of that local residents have a great pride of our towns. For the last 100 years the surrounding towns and cities lived with and indeed grew in part thanks to the Martins creek quarry. Up until 2012 it was a semi harmonious existence but now with new ownership, increased activity and proposal for expansion the balance is lost and the proud towns of Martins Creek and Paterson stand to become dust covered places, stripped of their charm on a haul road of corporate greed and bullying.
The increased road haulage will destroy the roads, at the cost of the rate payer, destroy tourism and have adverse affects on the local environment and its human inhabitants.
This is a growing world and we should support that, sustainably and responsibly, but not at the expense of the happiness and wellbeing of so many lives that will be affected by this careless and ruthless expansion.
Thankyou for your consideration,
Richard

Large trucks are ruining the heritage significance of the village of Morpeth. The village relies on tourism to remain viable.
The NSW Government funded a 3rd Hunter river crossing which is under-utilised. All trucks should be directed to use this bypass route. The Morpeth Bridge should be restricted to light traffic. Tourists are not interested in visiting places where the amenity is destroyed by the excessive noise generated by large gravel trucks.
You need to send a delegate to see how destructive large trucks are in our heritage streets. Believe it or not tourists actually like to walk around and experience the atmosphere. Large trucks just produce excessive noise and pollution.
Please include designate truck routes and help protect the heritage village of Morpeth.

The damage to the physical environment and the wildlife would be catastrophic to the area.
The social aspects will have on-going ramifications and cause conflict & stress in a previously serene environment.
The expansion will benefit very few, but be detrimental to many.

I write this e-mail to oppose the Martins Creek Quarry Expansion for several reasons.
Paterson is deemed by many to be a quaint rural town. It is spoken of positively in nearly every sphere of life except when it comes to truck traffic!
As it stands now, the truck movements coming from Martins Creek Quarry spoil this quaint town! It would be hard to imagine an increase in the truck movements!
As a recreational cyclist in the area I am fully aware of how menacing these trucks can be. Given that this is a cycling tourism area an increase in trucks may negatively affect tourism, not to mention the hazard factor.
It is about time that we saw an example where the people win and not the large organizations at the expense of the people.
Please maintain a quality of life in this rural quaint town and surrounding areas by rejecting this expansion of the Quarry.
I have not made a reportable political donation.
Yours sincerely
Angus Duguid

The volume of the proposed truck movements is totally unacceptable due to the impact it will have on residents living within several townships including Paterson.
There will be significant increases in noise, dust and vibration which will render most properties along the proposed "haul routes" uninhabitable and severely impact property values.
The sheer volume of trucks using the local rural roads will make using local roads treacherous at all times of the day and destroy the amenity of Paterson township.
The dust and vibration caused by truck movements will adversely affect residents health and buildings will continue to suffer vibration related damage.
The hours of operation proposed for road transport of materials is unacceptable. All truck movements must be limited to between 6am and 5pm as an absolute maximum. Any additional extension to operating hours will significantly disrupt the lives of residents living along the haul routes.
Regards
Robert Holt.

Tourism will be impacted over time with less people visiting the region, this will further have an impact on the economy of the region.

Our property line is about 200 to 300 metresfrom the quarry and our house is approx. 500 to 600 metres from the quarry. My family and I have lived here for almost 14 years.
Our house is built of brick and tile and has endured cracking of walls and plaster and moving of tiles due to the quarry explosives/blasting. I have made complaints to the quarry and EPA and nothing has been done. Every time there is a blast our whole house shakes.
We want to put our property on the market due to personal reasons, but am finding it very hard to keep up with repairing the constant cracks which is devaluating our house.
I am sure this is because the quarry is close by and the blasting and effects this has on our property.
There is no blast monitoring on our property and I do not think anywhere along Merchants Rd, even though we here are a lot closer to the quarry than the houses in View St where there are monitors, I am sure if you where to put monitors along Merchants Rd you would understand the concern.
I OPPOSE THE EXPANSION OF THE QUARRY, IT SHOULD NOT BE ANY BIGGER THAN IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE 5 YEARS AGO AND WITH SMALLER AND FEWER BLASTINGS.

Living on Tocal Road, I strongly appose the expansion of Martins Creek Quarry. Tocal Road is already a busy road, with the traffic noise increasing all the time. There are numerous bus stops along the road for school children pick ups. There is also no cycle/ foot paths for safe pedestrian movement. I already feel unsafe when walking on the road, and fear more my children.
The roads are not designed to take the load and size of the vehicles, and the road is already getting busier with public cars, as the area expands.
I am the owner of my property, and feel the value of my property will go down because of the "death trap" the road will become. let alone the noise pollution.
the expansion must not go ahead - keep it safe for the School Run and Children. Tocal Road must stay residential.

My concern is my entire quality of life living in this town. I live in the 80km zone between Paterson and the Dungog turnoff.
The impact on my family, my home and the environment.
The value of my property. the safety of my children learning to drive.
The impact on a historical town and tourism.
I have not made a reportable political donation.

I wish to make application to oppose the Martins Creek Quarry Expansion Project on the following grounds
1. Noise- I believe the road noise from the additional trucks and earlier loading times will affect our family sleep and rest. The proposed opening of the quarry from 5.30 am will have trucks on the road going to the quarry at 4.30 am. Unladded truck cause a lot of echo noise as the truck dog trailers bounce over the road surface. Also ladden trucks turning from Brandy ill Drive into Seaham road need to go up an incline from a stamdimng start causing lots of noise as they go up through their gears up the hill.
2. Safety -The proposal to allow 80 trucks/ hour needs to be considered with the number of truck movements per hour from the nearby Brandy Hill quarry. The route from the quarry to the Pacifica hwy uses Brandy Hill Drive which is only a local road. This amount of large truck traffic on our local roads will cause safety issues with people getting frustrated travelling for long distances behind slow vehicles on single lane roads which will lead to people taking overtaking risks. The route has many cross streets and will be difficult for these trucks to stop quickly if a car turns out infront of them trying to get in front of the truck.
3. Damage to roads- The increase of truck movemnets will cause major road degragation as many roads are not local and not buildt for such intence heavy vehicle traffic daily. This will put pressure on our local councils for cost of the road upkeep.

The land zoning is rural residential. The proposal is not in keeping with this zoning. The trucks inhihibit our use of Brandy Hill drive to walk and cycle. Similarly on Seaham Road. The pavement is always in a state of disrepair.
We have grown hedges to try to mitigate the noise, to minimal effect.
The early start of the truck movements is also unacceptable. I am not allowed to operate heavy machinery at 5.30am!
I sincerely reauest thst common sense will orevail and that this propisal be disallowed.
