TREE LOSS
I am very concerned about the loss of tree cover across the City of
Ryde due to various developments. Kent Road School is a major
development which destroys over 50 trees (which is 25% of the trees on
site). While many of these have been determined as of low value this
does does not take into consideration value for bird and wildlife
habitat and the aesthetic values of the overall tree canopy when
viewed from inside and outside the site.
REQUESTS FOR THIS DEVELOPMENT
I request that Tree Protection Zones during construction are taken
seriously and policed by suitable officials to ensure zero damage to
trees left on site.
I request that many more tree be planted back than proposed which will
increase tree canopy cover in the long term. So at least 100 extra
trees should be added to the site.
I request that replacement and additional trees that are not in the
direct footprint of the building be planted immediately, before
construction is started.
I request that replacement trees be well established and as large as
possible to ensure rapid canopy replacement.
I request that nesting boxes for both mammals and birds be installed
in as many trees on the larger site as possible to replace habitat
loss especially of the trees which currently have nesting hollows.
I request that shrubs and low vegetation which favours small birds be
added to the site plantings.
I request that indigenous vegetation to the area be planted with
strong preference to other types of vegetation.

Dear NSW Department of Planning & Environment (DPE),

I support this re-development of Kent Road Public School in Eastwood.
However, I an concerned about the traffic congestion on Kent Road,
particularly during the morning and afternoon school drop off times.
To improve traffic flow, I recommend a dedicated off-road school drop
parking area be created on Kent Road, adjoining the school boundary.

Thanks and regards,
Ross Johnson
