I would appreciate it if you could provide me with a copy of the Community Facilities Strategy for Master Plan 2030 (2018 Review) submitted with the SOPA Masterplan review 2030. I have tried to locate it on both the DPIE website and SOPA website and can not locate it.

I would also appreciate it if you could advise whether any residents or former users of the Wilson Park were formally advised of the notification of the application. I live in Newington and am Co-president of the Newington Gunners Soccer club and I am not aware of any notification in either capacity.

Can you please advise me what your notification process was for this application.

I would appreciate it if you could provide this information as soon as you are able as it will assist me with finalising my personal submission on this matter.

I will follow this with another submission prior to the close of the submission period once I have received the material requested.

Thank you

Cricket is growing rapidly as a participation sport in many areas of Sydney, and the lower north shore is no exception. Our junior club has seen a rapid increase in player numbers over the past 5 years and demand has dictated that we incrementally grow our senior women's cricket program. The challenge is that the volume of facilities has not been growing at the same rate.

The closure of the indoor centre at Moore Park has materially impacted UTS North Sydney's ability to prepare our players for each season. The lower north shore has no publicly available all-weather indoor facilities to use while winter sports clubs are using our regular facilities.

As a club, we understand that the value and scarcity of land in our LGA makes the creation of indoor facilities unlikely. As such, we look to other areas to help fulfil our players' training needs.

An elite level facility at Wilson Park will help us meet our club's need for facilities. Without the creation of such a facility, players from our local area will be constrained in their ability to develop and fully enjoy their cricket. As such, we fully support this proposal and hope the facility is able to be brought online as soon as possible for the benefit of all our constituent members.

There has been no consultation with the local community about this project. I learned about it by accident. I live locally and my children play football at the park. I would have expected that as a stakeholder I would be notified about a proposed change of use for the park.
There has been no suitable alternative venue proposed for the teams that use the grounds.
A cricket centre for elite players is of no value to the local community.
Yet another decision for Western Sydney without community consultation or benefit for the community.

I support the submission lodged by the Newington Gunners Soccer Club and request the Department of Planning implement all the key actions requested in the submission. In particular, I request that:

1. Further consultation be undertaken with the club and residents of Newington more broadly.
2. The club be given access to train on one weeknight and play some games on Saturday mornings at the new facility once it is built, during the cricket off season.
3. The Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA) be required to deliver the new sporting fields they said would be delivered when their Masterplan was approved to allow all the new tall buildings to be built in Sydney Olympic Park.

The justification for implementing these key actions is detailed in the Submission lodged on behalf of the Newington Gunners.

• The re-location of the facility to Wilson Park will make the facility more centrally located and accessible for cricket clubs, particularly in growth areas like Western Sydney.
• The facility will raise the skill level for NSW Cricket across all ages and regions, improve the state’s competitiveness and maintain our standing as the leading producer of Australian players.
• The facility will provide a state of the art facility where the cricket community can come together to improve technical skills for players, coaches and administrators as well as facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing between clubs across Sydney and NSW.
• Co-location of the high performance facilities with the facilities available for the broader cricket community will enable junior cricketers to meet, observe and learn from the senior elite players.
• The facility will support the growth of Women’s cricket through providing an ICC standard field for women’s matches.
• The stand-alone facility will raise the profile of the sport
• Olympic Park is the home of sport in NSW and the facility will add to the range of sporting facilities and events

With the current works being conducted at the SCG and surrounding areas the cricket nets are no longer available for use. These nets provided junior cricketers with the opportunity to train in world class facilities. I understand that once the nets are rebuilt they will not be available for public use.

I believe there is a need to create a world class facility which will allow junior and senior cricketers the opportunity to access the best facilities available.

With other sports such as AFL, Soccer and Basketball gaining traction with kids, the national sport is under threat. There is a pressing need to improve facilities across the greater Sydney area and I believe the creation of a world class training facility that will be available to Junior and Senior cricketers will go along way in promoting the game of cricket.

Application number SSD-10354 - Cricket NSW Wilson Park Development at Sydney Olympic

Cricket is woven into the fabric of this country, beginning almost a century before Australia existed as a nation. On 8 January 1804 the Sydney Gazette and New South Wales Telegraph reported: The late intense weather has been very favourable to the amateurs of cricket who have scarce lost a day for the past month.

Unlike the amateurs of centuries past, Cricket NSW supports more than 400,000 cricketers of all ages, abilities and backgrounds right across the state. Such has been the explosion in cricket that Cricket NSW now has six professional teams, three male and three female. It means we had already outgrown our existing facilities at Moore Park before they were knocked down as part of the Sydney Football Stadium redevelopment.

The NSW Blues men’s team played its inaugural First Class match against Victoria in 1856 while the NSW Breakers Women’s team first competed in the 1931 National Carnival. But over the past decade elite cricket has changed remarkably, with Cricket NSW also supporting Men’s and Women’s teams from the Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers. This came as Cricket NSW made the Breakers the first fully professional domestic women’s sporting team in Australia.

Unfortunately, the increasing financial professionalisation of our players wasn’t matched with facilities as NSW cricket fell behind other states and sporting codes.

The Wilson Park development at Olympic Park provides the facilities cricket in NSW desperately needs to properly cater for modern professional athletes as well as the development of our next generations of male and female stars from a wide variety of backgrounds. Young male and female players from around the state who show promise will be able to attend specialised coaching sessions training alongside their heroes. It will also provide a centre for thousands of club and community users all year round.

The now demolished Moore Park indoor centre catered for 35,000 club and community players a year. We believe that given this will be a modern facility in the heart of greater Sydney, even more will have access to it.

We commend this development as a vital part of the NSW sporting infrastructure.
