I am a current employee at Muyna Colliery, and I would like to officially provide my support to this project. I have been working at Myuna for 27 years, and believe that the onging operation of Myuna Colliery will be beneficial to not only my family, but also to the community.
Myuna Colliery has been an operational mine at Wangi Wangi since 1982 along side the community, and doesn't receive many complaints. Muyna Colliery has been in operation for over 25 years and over this peroid Myuna has provided investments in many community projects. These projects include sponsorship of initiatives at Arcadia Vale Public School,Wangi Peter Pan Kindregarten,Lake Macquarie Combined Fishing Club,Wangi NetballClub, Rathmines Public School,Powerhouse Christian Church,Wangi Lawn Bowling Club,Wangi Lions Club, and the Wangi Beautification Project,Wangi Dobell Festival of Arts &Crafts, the Wangi Men's Shed and West lakes Soccer Club.
Myuna Colliery also strives to be a safe working environment, and to improve safety environmental awareness and performance everyday.
The continuation of Myuna Colliery would provide up to 210 jobs for a further 21 years, and also allow Myuna Colliery to continue ti sponsor local projects and initiatives.

In spite of a meeting with and correspondence from Myuna Mine Management, I remain concerned about and sceptical of the following : -

1. The Social Assessments do not take into consideration the increased impact on the low lying land fringing Lake Macquarie, along Secret Cove (South Western fringe of the Fishing Point Peninsular). Any subsidence beyond the Zone A levels will still negatively impact the value of this low lying land - my only reasonable realiseable asset
2. No indication is given in documents of compensation available to disadvantaged land owners in the event of subsidence beyond the limits specified
3. Whilst the Risk Assessment tabulates various levels of intervention - by and large, should subsidence occur beyond the stated maximums, corrective action is ineffective at that stage for the areas suffering excess subsidence. e.g Chain Valley Bay
4. How can multi-level extraction guarantee freedom from strata fracture when geological formations cannot in themselves be guaranteed to be uniform between the seams?
5. Centennial Coal being a largely (if not completely) a foreign owned entity, what protections are in place in the event of major issues emanating from this proposed extraction extension? Having personally experienced disadvantage at the hands of both home based and overseas ownership, I am sceptical about preparedness to "pick up the pieces"
6. There seems to be no reference in documents to the possible impact of seismic activity. Where do we stand with Insurance Companies should this proposal exacerbate the effect of a seismic event?
7. Whilst Mine Management will point out to you that my land is just outside the proposed new extraction boundaries, I submit that (a) I am sufficiently close enough to be at risk and (b) Only minor inaccuracies in underground survey could put me at greater risk
8. Notwithstanding my personal concern, I doubt that my neighbours to the South East have considered the implications. Whilst this might be "their problem", so to speak, I do feel the need to give them some thought

These are my key concerns. Copies of my correspondence with Myuna Mine Management are available but not, unfortunately in pdf format.

Thank you.

Sincerely
Fred White
