I have worked at the Bengalla mine for over 9 years.
My role here is as a CHPP Supervisor after spending a number of years as an electrician in the CHPP.
I spent a number of years on the Community Support Group Team here at Bengalla, which not only contribute valuable funds to a lot of local charities, but local schools, Educational Programs and Sporting groups to name a few.
My work mates and I have major concerns that this will have a large impact on the local community with a lot of families including my young family relying on income from Bengalla mine. This will have carry on effect causing the closure of businesses and a further declining economic outlook for the Upper Hunter after the Drayton Coal closure and other mines that have ceased to operate over the last couple of years.
Bengalla mine has had a positive relationship with Muswellbrook and the surrounding area injecting funds into the local council giving the council the means to improve local infrastructure. The mine has also trained and will continue to train young people not only in trades but giving them opportunities to gain scholarships at Universities and the employment of graduate engineers.
Bengalla has been an integral part of the upper hunter for over 19 years in operation, 3 years in the construction phase and with another 22 years of mine life remaining, I believe that the community and I myself would see the approval of this modification to be a step back in the betterment of the currently struggling area.
I strongly believe that the best outcome for myself, my colleagues and the wider community is for both Bengalla and Mt Pleasant to continue for their full approved mine life.
My concern is that if approved, it will allow the railway line for Mount Pleasant to remain in place stopping Bengalla's mine progression and cause myself and work mates to lose their jobs and lively hood.

I wish to submit an objection to the Mount Pleasant Coal Mine Modification.
I have been employeed in the local mining community for in excess of 15 years as a contractor working at Bengalla then as a permenant employeed directly by Bengalla Mining company.
I am extremely concerned that should the Mount Pleasant Mine Modification receive approval it will allow the rail loop for Mount Pleasant to remain inplace which will have grave consequences for Myself, approx 600 employees and the local comunities surrounding Muswellbrook. Employment at Bengalla has allowed myself and my family to live a confortable lifestyle further to this since working at Bengalla I have seen the company make considerable contributions to the surrounding communities at all levels.
Finally I would like to see both Bengalla and Mount Pleasant both co exist and be able to continue operations however as previously indicated if Mount Pleasant gains approval for the modification it will be at the cost of Bengalla Mining Company and all those who depend on it.

I have worked at Bengalla for almost ........ I have lived in the local community my entire life. I am currently very concerned that the new modification to Mount Pleasant's lease & the fact its railway line across Bengalla's lease will greatly impact the future of Bengalla that will see its 600 employees jobs put at risk & also effect local buisnesses & the community that it supports. I believe that while both mines should be able to progress in a way that both can continue there full life with out a railway line getting in the way of future plans.

I have worked at Bengalla for a number of years and have seen it grow and expand. Through the recent tough times Bengalla continued to provide support and assistance to the local community and local events.

Bengalla should be allowed to continue mining per its approved Development Consent, to continue to employ approximately 600 full time employees and to support the local community.

I am very concerned that the Mount Pleasant modification if approved will allow the railway line for Mount Pleasant to remain in place and cause Bengalla to curtail its operation causing myself and 600 Bengalla employees to lose their jobs.

I am very concerned about the large number of local businesses that will be affected by Bengalla curtailing its operation which will have a detrimental impact on the local community.

The best outcome for Bengalla, Mt Pleasant, Muswellbrook, NSW and Australia is that both mines continue for their full life however as it stands I believe there is a lack of certainty as to whether Bengalla can continue.

To Whom It May Concern,

I'm writing on behalf on the Mt pleasent rail loop that may impact my employment at Bengalla Mining Company.
I have worked at Bengalla since 2010 were i started as an apprentice electrician and continued on my employment working for Bengalla. I'm currently a HV electricain on the breakdown crew, which i enjoy.
I was born in the Hunter Valley and still have relatives that work at Bengalla and live in the close proximity.
I believe if the rail loop does not be relocated to a more suitable place the employee's and myself at bengalla will be heavily affected, if our employeement ceases at the mine, currently about 600 employees work here. Alot of the local company's work here at Bengalla aswell. This will also affect the wider community.
I have a young family at home that depend on me working for Bengalla. Without working here we most likely will not be able to provide the education that they are currently recieving.
I'd like to see both mines go ahead as i believe Mt Pleasent will also be good for the community. Their is still alot of life left in Bengalla and it'd be disapointing to see it end due to a rail road. Hopefully all parties can resolve this issue so we can continue our employeement here.
Thankyou,
A.King

I have worked at Bengalla mine for ............ My role at the site is a .......................... I have lived and worked in the hunter valley for the last ............. During my time at bengalla I have witnessed numerous amount of community projects being funded by the mine e.g Upper hunter show, Westpac helicopter, Muswellbrook Tafe. Bengalla is a long-term stable employer, which gives me the opportunity to support my family and build for their future. I am very concerned that the mount pleasant modification if approved will allow the railway line for mount pleasant to remain in place and cause Bengalla to curtail its operation causing myself and 600 bengalla employees to lose their jobs. Which will obviously affect my family, 599 more families, and numerous more other family's which are supported by local businesses through Bengalla mine.
With the closure of Drayton mine and now the possibility of in 5 years that Bengalla mine will close what hope has the Muswellbrook community got?
Surely there is a desirable outcome that Bengalla and Mount Pleasant can both work together to benefit both sides.

I am objecting to the submission from Mt Pleasant Coal due to the impact that the rail loop location for the Mt Pleasant mine will have on the operations at the Bengalla mine.
As I am employed by Bengalla and the main source of income for my family, I am concerned for the continual employment of myself, fellow workers (approx. 600) and local business that the mine supports that if the rail lop is approved in its current location will cause substantial disruption to the Bengalla mine operation and the possibility of large job losses at the mine and community, including my own.
I believe Bengalla Mining and its employees are a respected members and significant contributors to the community with sponsorship to many projects (Muswellbrook Tafe accommodation, Regional Art prize, PCYC just to name a few) and support of non-profit and sporting groups.
I am hopeful that an alternative route for the Mt Pleasant rail loop can be found so both mine operations can continue and provide stable employment for all involved which will intern benefit the community.
Regards
Nick Glenn

As an employee where I have worked for the past 13years as a mechanical fitter Bengalla has supported myself & others that work here in many different ways. It has been a stable place of employment which has enabled me to support my family & to invest in the local community ,not only myself but Bengalla is highly regarded & invests greatly in the local community ie donations to local chairities , supporting local shows & events .
Im concerned that the Mount pleasant modification if approved will allow the railway line for Mount Pleasant to remain in place and cause Bengalla to slow production down to a stop causing myself & 600 other employees to lose their jobs not to mention the other industry involved in the running of the mine .
I believe the best outcome for Bengalla,MtPleasant,Muswellbrook, local towns around the area ,NSW is that both mines continue for their full life

I have been an employee of Bengalla Mining Company for nearly seven years as a mining operator. I am a local and have lived in the surrounding area my whole life. Bengalla has been a stable place of employment and given me financial security allowing my family a comfortable, enjoyable life.
My major concern, if the modification is approved, is the loss of my position along with all the other employees at Bengalla. Six hundred employees losing their jobs will have a detrimental impact on the local community and also a large number of local businesses.
Bengalla is highly regarded within the community because of the support it gives to many community organisations and events. My family has personally attended or been a part of many things Bengalla has supported.
Bengalla plays a pivotal role in the local community and the effect the Mount Pleasant modification will have, if it is approved, will be detrimental to thousands of community members. This includes employees and their families, local businesses, large and small, sporting groups and schools around the region.
I feel the best outcome for the Community, Bengalla and Mount Pleasant is for both mines to continue mining at full production for the life of their current development consent without any restrictions effecting their operations.

I am against this proposal as it will see my husband jobless. We are a ............... family, raising two ........... children. My work prospects are nil due to past injury. We are completely dependant on my husband who is employed by Bengalla Mine.
As Mt Pleasants rail loop is on Bengallas land, it's my understanding that Bengalla Mining Operations would have to cease when the rail loop is achieved.
It would be advantageous for both parties to go ahead so a compromise is my ideal outcome for the community as a whole.

To Whom it may concern,

I have worked at Bengalla mining company for 7 years as a mobile equipment plant mechanic. As an employee of Bengalla I have been given the opportunity through Bengalla to assist with a variety of public days where Bengalla has given back to the community. These include the Bengalla open days, Various apprentice community projects, Mentoring students interested in mining careers and students who are enrolled in the Polly Farmer programme, some of which have become apprentices at Bengalla and National tree planting days amongst others.

During my time at Bengalla, I have learned that Bengalla is integral to the success of the local community and I support mining at Bengalla and the community directly benefits from the contributions that Bengalla and its employees make. Bengalla has provided a stable place of employment for myself enabling me to support my family and support local businesses as well as give something back to the community.

I am very concerned that the Mount Pleasant modification if approved will allow the railway line for Mount Pleasant to remain in place and cause Bengalla to curtail its operations causing myself and 600 Bengalla employees to lose their jobs.

I am very concerned about the large number of Local businesses that will be affected by Bengalla curtailing its operations which will have a detrimental impact on the local community.

The best out come for all of Bengalla, Mount Pleasant, Muswellbrook , N.S.W and Australia is that both mines continue their full life.

This mine was granted a lease in the 1990's and there have been many changes in those years. An updated environmental and community study needs to be performed before granting permission. The Environmental Impact Assessment done in the 1990s is no longer relevant and needs to be updated to the strict requirements of today.

Diversity of production is needed in the Muswellbrook area, which is already suffering from air pollution and land use conflict. The Upper Hunter has a growing tourism industry which will have negative impacts from more mining. After 20 years of inaction, causing community uncertainty, this mine should not go ahead

New project opportunities which will generate jobs both locally and more broadly in the economy should be supported. As such, I am supportive of the Mt Pleasant mine.
