Message
Dear Infrastructure Director (NSW Dept of Planning and Environment), the Wagga Floodplain Residents Protection Association Ltd is opposed to this development, because it adds to (and upgrades existing) essential infrastructure onto the Wagga floodplain of the Murumbidgee River, for which we have 2 problem issues: 1. such infrastructure is at risk of flood damage and flood event related down time; 2. such infrastructure will therefore be protected by levees (whether exisiting or future increased/improved) that impact on flood behaviour on the floodplain and in particular impacts on nearby properties. It is the Association's view that esential infractructure should be sited away from the floodplain where possible and that any flood impacts should be fully mitigated. It is our understanding that Riverina Water intend to upgarde their levees and that there is no mitigation planeed for these levees. This new planned infrastructure will add weight to levee protection, for many years, with almost certain detrimental impacts on neighbouring properties. The better long term plan would be to move such infrastucture away from the floodplain, or else commit now to full mitigation to affected properties. Yours faithfully, Nicholas J H Stephenson. Please note that I, Nicholas Stephenson, have made a donation of less than $1000 to the Liberal Party of NSW, but the Association has not made any political donation.
