The Western Sydney Parklands were announced by Premier Bob Carr on 4 December 2004 to "be the lungs of western Sydney, open space never to be developed, a great part of our environment" for the benefit of Greater Sydney residents. The parklands contain some of the last vestiges of critically endangered ecological community, the Cumberland Plain Woodland. We cannot afford to lose more of our quarantined biodiversity and this development betrays the intent of preserving our natural heritage.
