BASIX certificate improvements in the NSW Planning Portal
07 September 2026
Certificate validation
We have simplified the application process by removing the need for applicants to manually upload BASIX certificates when lodging development applications and complying development certificate applications.
Applicants now enter their BASIX certificate reference number directly into the application form and it is automatically validated before the application can be submitted for assessment. These changes apply to both new and in-progress applications.

Certificate management
We have also introduced additional improvements to make BASIX certificate management clearer and easier to use, including:
- Improved instructions for users with applications that were in progress during the transition to BASIX certificate validation.
- Clearer status messages for councils and certifiers reviewing certificates that require additional verification.
- Minor usability improvements and defect fixes to improve the overall user experience.
A more detailed description of the changes is available on the NSW Planning Portal website.
