BASIX Newsletter August 2026
25 August 2026
Welcome to the third edition of BASIX News.
We have been working behind the scenes to make the process easier for you.
NSW Planning Portal enhancements
We have been listening to your feedback and have made enhancements to the NSW Planning Portal to improve your experience across a range of digital services.
Applicants and developers are no longer required to manually upload a BASIX certificate as part of the development application or complying development certificate application process.
Instead, you enter the BASIX certificate reference number (example 1234567M) directly into the application form. The reference number is validated before an application can be submitted for assessment.
These changes now apply to new and 'In progress' applications. If you have started an application but you haven’t submitted it yet, you will need to pop back into the portal and enter your BASIX certificate reference number before submitting your application.
If you want to see what the BASIX validation messages look like, view the BASIX Information Sheet.
We have also developed a new step-by-step guide, How to validate a BASIX certificate marked as ‘Review required’, to help councils, private certifiers and other consent authorities with validating certificates if an address mismatch comes up.
BASIX help notes updated
To assist you with navigating the BASIX tool and the requirements, we have updated the BASIX help notes.
These include updating content, streamlining the overall structure, and adding new links in the tool that direct users to more detailed help note information.
We have also added a new Starting a BASIX application page that helps to explain the three assessment pathways within the BASIX tool: single dwellings, multi-dwellings, and alterations and a guide to help you make the right selections for your application.
Have a pool in your development?
The BASIX tool calculates in kilolitres, and you’ll need to make sure you enter the pool or spa volume in kilolitres (kL), not litres (L).
1 kilolitre (kL) = 1,000 Litres (L)
Taking a moment to verify the units will help ensure the calculations are completed correctly and help avoid delays.
Change to BASIX contact email
To improve our customer service, we have introduced a dedicated email address for all BASIX enquiries.
Please send all BASIX enquiries to [email protected].
If you send a BASIX email to [email protected], it will still reach us. However, for the fastest response, please use the new BASIX email address.
Our contact phone number (tel:1300 650 908) and overall customer service process remain unchanged.
