I have lived in the Hunter Valley for over three years and have worked in the coal mining industry for more than twelve years. During my time in the Hunter, I have been solely employed at the Mount Pleasant Operation. As the sole income earner for my family, this operation is our only source of financial support. It provides us with stability, job security, an excellent working lifestyle, and future career progression opportunities.

The Mount Pleasant Operation is an outstanding place to work. It demonstrates the strongest commitment to community respect, consultation, and support that I have experienced in my career. The financial contributions made by Mount Pleasant through sponsorships, community events, family days, scholarships, and the provision of stable employment are vital to maintaining the culture and lifestyle for which the Hunter Valley is known. The operation’s management of environmental factors and its proactive approach to minimising impacts on the community are industry-leading and set it apart from other sites in the region.

Employment at Mount Pleasant is critically important not only to my family, but to many families across the Hunter Valley. This importance will only increase as neighbouring projects conclude in the near future. Approval of Mod 8 will provide continued opportunity for local families to remain in the region, grow within the community, and maintain financial stability. If Mod 8 is not approved, many families may face significant financial stress and could be forced to leave the area.

My family and I love living in the Hunter. We have built strong friendships and actively participate in local events such as Merriwa’s “Running of the Sheep,” Aberdeen’s “Highland Games,” and Muswellbrook’s “Muscle in the Brook,” many of which are supported by Mount Pleasant. We value being part of this community and hope to continue building connections and contributing to the region’s future.

For these reasons, I strongly support the approval of Mod 8 and the continuation of the Mount Pleasant Operation.

I am supporting this project to get extension

The reasons for supporting this project is Mount pleasant operation deliver more than 1000 local jobs. Also, more than 70% of employees living locally so if the project extension not happening it will impact a lot to the town also the economy and population and etc.

Hunter area is 90% related with local mines and each mine site has many employees so then the hunter area can keep developed so far.

Each project impact a lot to the town due to many employees are involved and living locally.

To keep the hunter area populated and developed each mine project is important so I am supporting this project extension.

I am writing this submission not only as a worker at Mt Pleasant Mine, but as a proud member of this community. For me, this isn’t just about a workplace it’s about my family, my neighbours, and the future of the region we call home.

Working at Mt Pleasant Mine has provided me with stable, reliable employment that allows me to support my family and plan for the future with confidence. In a regional area like ours, opportunities like this are not easily replaced. The security that the mine provides means I can keep my family here, contribute to the local economy, and be part of the community long-term.

MOD 8 is important because it gives workers like me certainty. It gives us confidence that our jobs will continue, that our mortgages can be paid, that our kids can stay in their schools, and that we can continue supporting local sporting clubs, businesses, and community groups. Without that certainty, there is real anxiety about what the future holds not just for workers, but for the many local businesses that rely on the mine’s workforce.

Every pay cycle, the wages earned at Mt Pleasant flow straight back into this community. They support local shops, tradespeople, cafes, mechanics, and service providers. The mine’s presence underpins a network of small businesses and contractors who depend on ongoing operations. MOD 8 helps ensure that this economic stability continues.

As someone who works on site, I also see firsthand the strong safety culture and environmental controls that are in place. Modern mining operates under strict regulations, monitoring, and reporting requirements. Modifications like MOD 8 go through detailed assessment processes, and I have confidence that operations will continue to be managed responsibly and in line with regulatory standards.

This region has a proud mining history. It has shaped our identity and provided opportunities for generations. Supporting MOD 8 is about protecting jobs, protecting families, and protecting the long-term sustainability of our community.

For these reasons, I strongly support MOD 8 at Mt Pleasant Mine and respectfully ask that it be approved. The future of many local families including mine depends on it. Thanks

Submission Supporting the Extension of Mount Pleasant Operations

I am writing to show my support for the extension of mining operations at Mount Pleasant Operations in the Hunter Valley.

For many people in this region, mining isn’t just an industry — it’s how we support our families and keep our communities strong. Jobs at operations like Mount Pleasant allow local workers to stay in the Hunter Valley, raise their families here, and contribute to the towns we live in.

There are hundreds of people currently working at Mount Pleasant, and many of them live locally across the Upper Hunter and Muswellbrook areas. Those jobs support not only the workers themselves, but also their families and the wider community. When you think about the number of people who rely on those incomes, the impact goes far beyond the mine itself.

With other large projects in the Hunter Valley starting to wind down, the continuation of Mount Pleasant is really important. The extension of the mine would help support over 1,000 local jobs and provide some certainty for workers and families who want to continue living and working in the region.

Mining operations also support a lot of other local businesses. Many contractors, suppliers, and service providers rely on work connected to mines in the area. Local mechanics, transport companies, equipment suppliers, cafes, and small businesses all benefit when local workers have stable employment. Without projects like Mount Pleasant, many of these businesses would feel the impact as well.

Operations like Mount Pleasant also contribute to the local economy by working with regional suppliers and Indigenous-owned businesses, which helps create opportunities across the community.

For people who live and work in the Hunter Valley, the continuation of projects like Mount Pleasant means stability. It means local jobs, support for local businesses, and the ability for families to stay in the region and build their future here.

For these reasons, I support the extension of mining operations at Mount Pleasant.

Thank you for considering my submission.

I support Mod 8 it is an important project for me, my family and the local community.
I have worked at Mount Pleasant for 8 years in that time Mount Pleasant has provided Job security and financial stability, Mod 8 approval ensures local jobs and peoples livelihoods remain in the local region.
Our local communities have had to live in fear and uncertainty surrounding mining and job security for far too long.
I support Mod 8 to secure my future job security and financial stability.

I support the extension of the mine as it provides thousands of jobs and provides a sustainable use of electricity and power to the country. During my time playing local sport this mine and mines like it have supported my club and town in Muswellbrook by sponsoring games throughout the season to ensuring local sport can be played. Please accept this as a formal submission to extend the life of this mine.

As the wife of someone employed at the Mount Pleasant Operation, I would like to express my strong support for the continuation and expansion of the project.

My husband has worked in the coal mining industry for over 12 years, and for the past three years we have proudly called the Hunter Valley home. During our time here, he has worked solely at the Mount Pleasant Operation. He is the sole income earner for our family, which means that Mt Pleasant is our family’s only source of financial support.

The stability provided by this job has allowed us to build a life here in the Hunter. It gives our family financial security, job stability, and a healthy work–life balance. It also provides my husband with the opportunity for continued career progression in an industry he has dedicated many years to.

From what I have seen and heard from my husband, Mount Pleasant is a truly exceptional workplace. He often speaks about the strong culture on site and the genuine commitment the operation has to respecting, supporting, and engaging with the local community. Compared to other sites he has worked at throughout his career, the level of care shown towards the community stands out as something special.

Mount Pleasant contributes significantly to the Hunter Valley community through sponsorships, local events, family days, scholarships, and by providing stable employment for many local families. This support helps maintain the culture and lifestyle that makes the Hunter Valley such a wonderful place to live.

Environmental responsibility is also something the operation takes very seriously. From everything we have experienced, Mount Pleasant places a strong focus on managing environmental factors carefully and ensuring minimal impact on surrounding communities. This commitment is something that sets it apart and demonstrates industry leadership.

Employment at Mount Pleasant is not just important for our family, but for many families across the Hunter Valley. With other nearby projects expected to conclude in the coming years, opportunities like this will become even more important. The approval of Mod 8 will help ensure that families like ours can continue to live, work, and contribute to this region. Without it, many families could face financial uncertainty and may even be forced to leave the community they have built their lives in.

We hope to continue raising our family here, building connections, and participating in the events that make this community so special. Our ability to continue doing so depends heavily on the ongoing operation of the Mount Pleasant project.

For these reasons, I strongly support the continuation and expansion of the Mount Pleasant Operation.

My name is Lee and I support the project.
I am married with 2 kids, and moved to Muswellbrook in 2014.
I commenced working at the Mount Pleasant Operation in March of 2017 and have significantly advanced my career there. My wife and I are in the process of building our first home in the upper hunter, which is a decision made with a key factor being the longevity of the mining industry in the area.
If the Mount Pleasant Operation's proposed expansion is rejected, it would likely force my family and I to seek employment and a place to live elsewhere, as the diminishing opportunities that are available will leave us with no other choice. This would have a devastating effect especially on my children, who have grown up in the area.
The extension of the mine will offer long term stability to over a thousand local families, which will continue to grow the local economy. It will also continue to provide significant royalties to NSW which is critical to the ongoing success of the state as a whole.
