NSW Woody Vegetation Extent 2021

The NSW Woody Vegetation Extent 2021 shows where woody vegetation — trees and tall shrubs taller than two metres — is present across mainland New South Wales. It is a simple two-class map: each location is either woody or non-woody. The map is supplied as a seamless statewide grid of 5 - metre pixels, fine enough to pick out individual paddock trees and scattered woodland through to the largest continuous forests in the state. It is intended for rural, non-urban landscapes; its accuracy over urban areas has not been assessed

Uses methods published in K. Backman, J. Wood and A. Roff, "Mapping Woody Vegetation From Multisource Imagery and Prediction Fusion for Enhanced Data Efficiency and Accuracy," in IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing, vol. 19, pp. 9856-9867, 2026, doi: 10.1109/JSTARS.2026.3672149.
