Population growth begins to climb again

The NSW population returned to growth in 2021-22 after a flat period earlier in the pandemic.

Population growth in NSW is beginning to recover from the early impacts of COVID-19.

When our international borders closed in March 2020 population growth ground to a halt.

With almost no new residents arriving from overseas, and people continuing to move interstate, the first year of the pandemic (year ending 30 June 2021) saw the first annual decline in the population in over 100 years! (albeit a small one at -502 people.)

But with the gradual re-opening of international borders, population growth resumed in the year to 30 June 2022.
