Proposal: The draft Burwood North Metro Rezoning Proposal (the proposal) was available for public feedback between 10 March and 10 April 2026. We hosted 4 community information sessions during exhibition and thank the community and other stakeholders who attended a session or made a submission.
We are considering the submissions received during exhibition to inform the finalisation of the rezoning proposal, and we will prepare a finalisation report. The proposal is expected to be finalised in 2026.
The rezoning proposal aims to amend the planning controls in the Burwood Local Environmental Plan 2012 (BLEP 2012) and the Canada Bay Local Environmental Plan 2013 (CBLEP 2013) to create a well-planned, connected and inclusive community, offering diverse and affordable homes within walking distance of open space, essential services, and the future Burwood North Metro Station.
Key features of the rezoning proposal include:
- capacity for approximately 18,300 new homes, including 5-10% dedicated to affordable housing
- unlocking the potential for developers to deliver better open spaces
- improved local roads and active transport options, such as new walking and cycling connections
- building heights between 8 and 42 storeys (28m and 140m).
