Planning proposals
Wallerawang Power Station
Lithgow City
The NSW Government is exhibiting a rezoning proposal for the former Wallerawang power station site that could support up to 3,500 jobs and enable close to 1,260 new homes for the Lithgow region.
The proposal supports the transformation of former energy production precincts towards diverse economic opportunities and employment following the closure of coal-fired power generation in the Lithgow region.
Greenspot prepared the proposal, which was assessed by the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure as a State Assessed Rezoning Proposal due to its strategic importance to the region.
The proposal sets out a long-term vision for a new employment, housing and recreation precinct where people can live, work and enjoy the natural environment around Lake Wallace.
Key features of the proposal include:
- a new employment precinct with industrial and commercial land to support up to 3,500 jobs
- approximately 1,260 new homes within the precinct, including opportunities for affordable housing
- building heights between 2 and 5 storeys in designated areas
- more than 100 hectares of protected environmental conservation land
- tourism and recreation precinct adjacent to Lake Wallace.
Infrastructure will be delivered alongside development, with upgrades to roads, utilities and services to support future growth.
