Land use planning

Infrastructure Contributions

The Department of Planning and Environment exhibited a package of reforms to implement recommendations made by the Productivity Commission, following its review into infrastructure contributions.

In September 2022, the decision was made not to proceed with the proposed changes. The Department will continue to look at ways to enhance and optimise how the infrastructure contributions system operates.

The exhibition materials set out two key changes to the way contributions plans are made:

  • Contribution Plans will be prepared upfront (when needed) and exhibited at the same time as the rezoning proposal; and
  •  Direction will be given to think about how opportunities for dual use and shared use of open space.
