Problem statements

How can the assessment processes be improved to simplify complex application reviews and enable seamless collaboration between applicants, councils, and certifiers?

How can applications be summarised and assessors’ abilities to review them be accelerated, so they can focus on key areas and use precedents to speed up determination outcomes?

How can councils, government agencies, and third parties be enabled to complete their actions directly within the NSW Planning Portal and Major Projects Portal workflow, reducing reliance on disconnected internal systems?

Scope

Using smart AI tools to help summarise applications and make it easier for assessors to review them, focusing on the more complex parts.

This will involve exploring factors such as:

  • Reducing the manual review of planning applications to help make the application process faster and decrease staff-workload.
  • Integrating workflows across multiple stakeholder groups to improve communications throughout the approval process.
  • Facilitation of collaboration between applicants, councils and certifiers.
  • Exploring and assessing the AI capabilities of PEGA, the platform that underpins the Major Projects and NSW Planning Portals, as well as other AI tools.
  • Improved applicant experience by reducing the back-and-forth, streamlining communication and minimising repetitive follow-ups.
  • Helping councils of all sizes and budgets get fair access to digital planning tools.

Please note that the scope may be adjusted. Any changes will be communicated accordingly.
