BASIX tool enhancements

The BASIX tool is being enhanced and is moving to the NSW Planning Portal on 1 October 2023.

The BASIX tool is moving

The BASIX tool is being enhanced and moving to the NSW Planning Portal on 1 October 2023. You will need a Planning Portal account to access the enhanced BASIX tool. The existing BASIX tool accessed via https://www.basix.nsw.gov.au/login.action will be decommissioned and BASIX accounts will not work.

Individual or Business user accounts

If you don’t have a Planning Portal account, we’ll create one for you with the same email address as your BASIX account. We’ll email you the login details for your account before the launch of the enhanced BASIX tool.

If you already have a Planning Portal account, you’ll be able to use that to access the enhanced BASIX tool.

We will migrate projects from BASIX accounts to Planning Portal accounts with the same email address. We can’t migrate projects from BASIX accounts to Planning Portal accounts with different email addresses.

Multiple Individual or Business BASIX accounts that share the same email address will be merged into one account.

Other types of BASIX accounts

For other types of BASIX accounts (i.e. Education user or Certifier), you will need to set up your own Planning Portal account to use the enhanced tool. We won’t migrate your projects to the enhanced BASIX tool.

Enhancements to the BASIX tool

The enhanced BASIX tool will still have indices for water use, energy/greenhouse emissions and thermal performance (DIY method, simulation method or the Passive House standard method). It will also have improved functionality such as address verification and be integrated into the portal.

The higher BASIX standards, which includes the new materials index to calculate embodied emissions, will apply from 1 October 2023.
