Statewide Policy for Industrial Lands

The NSW Government has finalised the Statewide Policy for Industrial Lands, providing a more equitable and coordinated approach to planning, managing and protecting industrial lands across NSW.

The Policy:

  • establishes a consistent, evidence-based framework for planning and protecting industrial lands across NSW
  • introduces a framework for industrial lands to be categorised as state, regionally and locally significant industrial lands based on their spatial contribution to economic activity and their significance in a network of industrial lands
  • supports better planning for new and intensified industrial areas.

The Policy is a key action from the NSW Government’s Industrial Lands Action Plan. It will be applied to regions through strategic planning. This is demonstrated in the Sydney Plan and the draft Illawarra Shoalhaven Plan

The draft Statewide Policy for Industrial Lands was exhibited from 10 December 2025 to 27 February 2026. Feedback received from the community, councils, industry and stakeholders helped inform the final Policy.

Some Statewide Policy for Industrial Lands submissions also included feedback on the Sydney Plan and the A New Approach to Strategic Planning - Discussion Paper. As these are separate consultation processes, the relevant feedback associated with those documents have been considered and reported on separately through the relevant policy consultation reports.
