Local Environmental Plans

Local Environmental Plans (LEPs) guide planning decisions across NSW. The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) work closely with all councils to ensure up-to-date local planning controls are in place.

The process of creating Local Environmental Plans (LEPs) starts with a planning proposal which in most cases is undertaken by your local council. Proposals are then submitted to and assessed by DPIE to determine whether they have sufficient merit to proceed.
