Awaba Battery Energy Storage System

I object to this 50 MW / 100 MWh Battery Energy Storage System because it is a part of the fake green RenewaBULL Energy Transition - that is the most scandalous, idiotic rip-off of Australian people that I have every seen in 6 decades!

Filthy Lithium Batteries that are an extremely hazardous, toxic fire/smoke risk do not belong anywhere near Lake Macquarie City because the batteries spew out extremely dangerous fumes when they burn for days!

Coal, Gas & Uranium are far superior, plentiful, natural, Australian energy resources that provide real power. Instead, this stupidly inefficient lump of filthy, unhealthy, contaminating toxic lithium Awaba BESS will be constructed using slave labour components.
Lake Macquarie City has a duty to ensure they are not hosting a BESS in their Council area which includes any Slave Labour mining/production components.

Even the Applicant's name is disingenuous as this Awaba BESS will be pretty well useless in providing 'Firm' Power as it's an incapable part of the BLACKOUTS, BANKRUPTCY & BULL perpetuated by the scandalously flawed NSW RenewaBULL imaginary power plan that will make us suffer energy poverty - with some people unconscionably dying of despair & hyperthermia

Stand-alone BESS are not so well researched. We know they catch fire & can explode, cost a lot, have short lives around 10 – 12 years, require air-conditioning to keep them under 30C, need a sizable concrete base, are imported, should not be charged over 90% or allowed draining under 20% of a capacity to extend their life, lose efficiency over their life and so only warranted to be still greater than 70% of capacity after 7 to 10 years, and of course need lots and lots of electricity to charge them (which is why Switzerland intends EVs being banned from charging at times this winter to prevent blackouts/further rationing). In addition, they are classed as dangerous, are extremely hard to put out once on fire and produce toxic smoke as the chemical reaction proceeds, sometimes for days. Lithium batteries are only very partially recyclable, so adding to waste at the end of life. The mining, processing, and manufacturing is extremely toxic to the environments where these activities occur, mostly in China. As the BESS relies on electricity to keep its air conditioners running and it is the policies of our governments to phase out base-load power from coal and gas, then where will the electricity come from when wind and solar works are not producing any or very little? As this approach has not been successful anywhere in the world the project, if built may, not be viable once base-load power is minimal.

I support the addition of battery storage to stabilise the electricity grid. The batteries will be located on an existing area dedicated to energy transmission and should improve residents' access to electricity. This is the right direction for the energy transition we will need to undertake over the next decade.

I fully support the Awaba Battery Development. The project is essential for balancing the grid and supporting renewable energy performance in NSW.
