I hope that when the new theater is built, the operation of the existing theater will not be affected.

I hope that movies can be shown here in the future, especially to provide a screening venue for independent films from around the world (non-theater commercial films) to revitalize the independent film industry, especially Australian local films. It would be better if film festivals and competitions could be held.

I hope that there will be a large public space for eating and drinking here in the future. Food and beverages are provided in the theater.

When the new Theatre is designed it should consider providing sufficient venues and for patrons to attend before a show or event. Patrons must feel comfortable within the space with appropriate food and drink options and to engage with other attendees before, during intermissions and after events. The current facility feels like a large warehouse with the foyer leading to an outdoor space that is cold and sterile.

I support the project as a vital element in the cultural and social life of a significant area of Sydney. However, as a long-time theatre professional and frequent visitor to Riverside, I want to put the case as strongly as I can that the building and its productions will need to be supported by an expert IN HOUSE media and marketing team. Without such a team – dedicated to Riverside and knowing the venue and its audience inside out – you will be chucking money down the drain. Please don't imperil Riverside by overlooking this vital element.

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to express my full support for the State Significant Development Application (SSDA) for the revitalisation of the Parramatta Riverside Theatres. For myself and for my wife Barbara Ly

The redevelopment of this iconic venue represents a crucial investment in the cultural fabric of Western Sydney. As one of the region’s most important arts institutions, the Riverside Theatres have played a significant role in fostering creative expression, community engagement, and access to the performing arts for decades. The proposed redevelopment will expand and modernise the facility, ensuring that it continues to serve as a vibrant cultural hub for generations to come.

The upgrade will also enhance accessibility, improve backstage and technical capabilities, and provide world-class performance spaces that reflect the artistic ambitions and cultural diversity of the region. The expanded facilities will enable the hosting of a broader range of performances and community events, contributing to the local economy and enriching the cultural life of Parramatta.

Importantly, this redevelopment aligns with the vision for Parramatta as Sydney’s Central River City and a growing epicentre for arts and culture in NSW. It will not only support local creatives and production staff but also attract national and international performers, audiences, and investment.

I commend the NSW Government and the City of Parramatta for their commitment to this transformative project, and I strongly urge approval of the SSDA for the Parramatta Riverside Theatres.

Thank you for considering this submission.

As there are a number of buildings in the vicinity that are significantly taller than the Riverside Theatre Redevelopment, the occupants of these building will be looking down on its roof. Therefore, it demands an aesthetically sympathetic treatment in keeping with its polished facade.

The roof of the present proposal is nothing more than a mish-mash of metal roofing with a grid of photovoltaic panels on top. This seriously detracts from the appearance of the building when viewed from a higher vantage point. A building of this cultural significance deserves better treatment.

I respectfully submit that the architects should re-visit their design in view of the above considerations.
