Buckland Street has a maximum height of 4 storeys and the UTS submission exceeds this. The street is primarily residential and the introduction of more high rise buildings will detract from the ambiance of family living. If UTS is allowed this infringement of laws, like Central Park who disregarded all of the compliances agreed upon, it will get out of hand and our community is at risk. The height and overcrowding of accommodation in Abercrombie Street is a travesty. The Central Park Project made a mockery of community liaison and I fear this project will be do the same. Please ensure our rights as rate payers and a Chippendale community are upheld.

I strongly object to this proposal.
It is not in keeping with the surrounding streetscape.
It is over the height regulations which are 9 metres for this area of Chippendale. This building will totally dominate the area, and overlook the residential buildings.
UTS has other sites that they should redevelop to achieve their required floor space instead of ruining our residential area.
We have been suffering under years of noise and pollution due to the Central Park development, and now the universities and other developers are trying to use those enormous buildings as the new benchmark for heights and density. Which is not in or area of Chippendale.
This area is conservation, with a 9 metre height restriction and FSR of 1.25:1 to protect our homes and wellbeing. We are restricted in what we can do with our terrace homes, but it seems OK for UTS and other developers with money to do what they want and ignore the rules that the long term owner-occupiers are made to adhere to.
Enough is enough. Please reject this proposal.

As a long term resident and owner of two properties in Chippendale, I strongly object to this proposal. Our entire area of Chippendale is Conservation Area, and subsequently subject to Height and FSR restrictions of 9 metres and 1.25:1. There are no buildings more than 12 metres ( those being warehouse conversions, and built before controls imposed), and we enjoy this low rise area.
Our views towards the city will be blocked, and our views of the Church also.
The ambient noise from air-conditioning units in the new buildings of Central Park is also impacting us, and to have another oversized building less than 100 metres from us is Unacceptable.
The proposed building height of 27 metres is Unacceptable. and being situated within the residential area, as opposed to along Broadway is also Unacceptable. Why doesn't the university redevelop their site on Broadway opposite Central Park, where the old tower is to find more floor space? This would be a less impact site.

I love Chippendale; it's changing, it's part of the city.
Question to the residents... Does 8 stories sound like UTS is pushing the envelope just a little?
I don't think Sydney City would ever turn it down, so it is imperative residents help guide the encroachment on our sight, sound and sunlight. This latest development really does need to include the locals.
REAL LOCAL INPUT; I don't mean just in pushing through green buildings (that would be nice) but that we the residents of Chippendale dearly need local space, community space. A space where we feel we can belong. Proactively seek out who are the real locals - the area is becoming more and more transient.

Be BRAVE UTS... don't pretend this is near the same height of the heritage buildings; it's way over. Make us proud to be part of Chippendale and your shadow, not just a box-ticking exercise that will have post-approval modifications that leads to the developer's true desire - we are all experts after years of "progress" and really get tired of the games.

Soon Blackfriars Street will turn into a drop-off / pick-up for the already approved child care centre; if you were wondering where it is moving to - we will have new traffic problems, although they have statistics to prove that not to be the case. UTS is giving back to the community (at a percentage). Traffic is a problem and it's getting worse.

Be BOLD UTS; we love beautiful buildings - you definitely have a few!

An objection to the proposal is raised for the following reasons:
The subject site sits to the north of 4-12 Buckland Street which is the subject of a modified development application (D/2012/1398/A) being considered by the City of Sydney for a childcare centre. There are heritage implications arising from the proposed 6.0m wide vehicular access from Buckland Street. Whilst the new entry is designed to accommodate access to the site for service and emergency vehicles, it is presumed they will service both the UTS childcare centre site and the UTS Blackfriars Precinct Research Building site (SSD6746). Alternative access arrangements should be considered to minimise the heritage implications of the current proposal. Therefore, access arrangements to the site should be considered as part of an overall strategy for both sites to ensure the most suitable and sensitive outcome is achieved.
