I object to the project because the total environmental and social costs of road transportation of ore have not been calculated.
In the long term, and this project is a long term one,the costs of road transport are huge.Roads will need total rebuilding for B double trucks.Maintenance will be high, and the chance of accidents is high.In the long term it is much better for the community if rail transport is used.Costs of road maintenance necessary after construction, and for employee transport on all surrounding roads have not been included.
The degredation of the roadsides, caused by the previous transportation of ore by truck from the Woodlawn Mine to Tarago,is obvious.Degredation all the way to Port Kembla would be an environmental disaster.
The project should only be approved if all ore transport is by rail.
