Submission: Objection to the Proposed Narrabri Gas Pipeline

I am writing to formally object to the proposed Narrabri Gas Pipeline.

The pipeline would cut across Gomeroi Country and through the Pilliga Forest, a region of significant cultural, environmental, and ecological importance. This proposal raises serious concerns regarding the protection of Country, water systems, and threatened wildlife, and should not be approved.

Of particular concern is the proposal to route the pipeline beneath Bohena Creek, a site recognised as highly significant by the National Native Title Tribunal. Any risk to this waterway represents an unacceptable threat to both cultural heritage and environmental integrity. Disturbance to waterways in this region has the potential for long-term and irreversible impacts.
The project would also require the clearing of habitat in the Pilliga Forest, placing additional pressure on already threatened species, including the Pilliga Mouse and the Eastern Pygmy Possum. The Pilliga is one of the largest remaining temperate woodlands in NSW, and further habitat fragmentation undermines biodiversity conservation efforts and contradicts environmental protection commitments.

Approval of this pipeline would also facilitate the expansion of coal seam gas development in the region, including up to 850 gas wells across the Pilliga Forest and Gomeroi Country. This represents a significant escalation of industrial activity with cumulative impacts that have not been adequately addressed.

At a time of climate crisis, the development of new gas infrastructure is unnecessary and inconsistent with the transition to renewable energy. This project prioritises corporate profit over the protection of Country, water, wildlife, and future generations.
I urge the NSW Government to reject the proposed Narrabri Gas Pipeline and to respect the cultural significance of Gomeroi Country, protect the Pilliga Forest, and uphold its responsibility to safeguard environmental and community wellbeing.

Thank you for considering my submission.
