The Gundary Solar Farm project poses significant threats to the environment, local communities, and biodiversity. The lack of transparent carbon accounting undermines its claims of contributing to net-zero goals, as lifecycle emissions—from raw material extraction to decommissioning—are poorly documented and underestimated. Furthermore, the project’s legislative breaches and inadequate mitigation strategies highlight the risks of proceeding without substantial revisions.

Given the irreversible damage to flora, fauna, and community wellbeing, this project should not proceed in its current form. A shift towards smaller, community-focused renewable energy solutions with rigorous environmental safeguards would better align with Australia’s sustainability goals while preserving its unique ecological heritage.

I support the Gundary solar farm. My submission focuses on intergenerational equity.

I support the Gundary Solar Farm. To this date in the Goulburn Mulwaree Local Government Area, there are no renewable projects. This is despite excellent access to transmission lines and a favourable climate. We are surrounded by local government areas with up and running renewable projects, yet we here, have not had the opportunity to support such projects nor benefit from the investments into our community.
While strongly supporting BP Lightsource’s project, I request that there are truly tangible benefits to the community. In particular, the adherence to the NSW Department of Planning’s guideline for solar projects to pay at least $850 per megawatt per annum for the life of the project in benefit sharing. The employment of local workers and businesses for the project should be part of the brief. This will definitely benefit the Goulburn Mulwaree community. I encourage the stipulation to fund specific projects in and around Goulburn. Projects such as a mountain bike track, continued development of the Wetlands, development of the Goulburn-Crookwell rail trail, projects to support the homeless in and around Goulburn, funding scholarships for public school students. This is all about social licence which is so important in gaining strong community support. Collector Wind Farm not 80 kms from Goulburn is the very best example of a renewable company ensuring the local community truly benefits from the natural resources in their community.
I strongly support a mandate for the farm to be built for agrivoltaics. A win-win for local farmers, and supports and improves the land on which the panels are placed.
Part of social licence is bringing on board the immediate neighbours. They do have some legitimate concerns, namely the road access. This needs to be improved before the infrastructure for building begins. This is a minor road, not wide and with a narrow bridge. To allow residents and the company to use this road easily, consideration for an upgrade needs to happen. An increase in the Neighbourhood Benefits Program should be part of the improvements responding to the concerns of the immediate neighbours.
The need for Australia to move to renewable energy is undeniable. As a long term resident of Goulburn Mulwaree, I want my area to be part of the renewable energy push for the benefit of the country, BPLightsource and my community.
