I am happy to give a positive view of this project
I am fourth generation born and bred in Muswellbrook my father both grandparents and even a great grandfather worked in the mining industry in Muswellbrook
My family relies on my wage to pay for our house car and all our living expenses
If this extension does not go ahead, I am unsure how I could pay for my twins to finish UNI my daughter a nurse and my son is doing town planning or pay to live in general.
Since opening Mt Pleasant has opened it has been great for the community supporting local jobs working for the mine or the many other contractors that also need jobs to support their families
Working here I have noticed they are a responsible company that change their mining methods to reduce impact to the community before it is a problem
I am sure the majority of people in the area would be extremely upset if the extension is knocked back on the very lame excuses that have been brought up by people with no idea with their own hidden agenda
The money that is generated from this mine supports locals near and far as well as the royalties that flow back to the state to keep our hospitals and the rest of the state running without mining, we will be back in the dark ages
thank you for taking the time to read my submission

My name is Byron Tomlinson and I would like to express my support for Modification 8 (Mod 8) for the Mount Pleasant Operation.
As someone who works at Mount Pleasant, I see firsthand the level of care and responsibility that goes into the operation every day. The site places a strong focus on environmental management and ensuring that mining activities are conducted responsibly. I have personally observed the effort put into protecting the surrounding environment and maintaining high operational standards.
The extension of the Mount Pleasant mine is extremely important for the Hunter Valley community, particularly at a time when other major mining operations in the region are approaching closure. Projects such as Mount Pleasant provide long-term job security for hundreds of workers and their families who rely on the mining industry for stable employment.
Mount Pleasant currently supports a large workforce, including hundreds of Thiess employees, many of whom live locally in the Hunter Valley. The continuation of this project will help maintain over a thousand local jobs and provide ongoing economic stability for the region.
In addition to direct employment, the operation supports a wide network of contractors, suppliers, and small businesses across the Upper Hunter and Muswellbrook areas. These businesses rely on mining operations like Mount Pleasant to sustain their operations and employ local people.
The project has also contributed significantly to the local community through spending with local suppliers and Indigenous-owned businesses, as well as support for community organisations.
For these reasons, I strongly support the approval of Modification 8 for the Mount Pleasant Operation.
Please feel free to contact me on 0448715909.

• As a Director of MACH Energy and I write in support of Modification 8 (MOD 8) to extend the approved mining period for the Mount Pleasant Operations under DA 92/97.
• Mount Pleasant is an important contributor to the Muswellbrook community and the broader Hunter Valley economy. The operation supports a large local workforce and provides ongoing opportunities for contractors, suppliers and service providers across the region.
• From a governance and long-term planning perspective, certainty matters. Mount Pleasant supports significant employment in the Hunter Valley region, with over 70% of employees living locally, and its operation expected to deliver more than 1,000 local jobs in the region. Mount Pleasant underpins the livelihoods of employees, contractors, suppliers and their families. Stability of operations allows these individuals and businesses to plan for the future with confidence.
• The Hunter Valley is already experiencing transition pressures as other major projects wind down. In that context, Mount Pleasant plays a meaningful role in maintaining economic continuity and employment stability in the region. The potential closure of operations in December 2026, should MOD 8 not proceed while legal matters continue, would introduce further uncertainty for the local community.
• Mount Pleasant has also made a significant contribution to the State of New South Wales through more than $650 million in royalty payments since operations commenced. In addition, the operation supplies a meaningful portion of NSW’s expected domestic coal demand beyond 2026, in the order of around 20%, helping to support the reliable delivery of power to NSW households.
• MOD 8 represents a practical and measured step to provide continuity for the Mount Pleasant Operations during a period of uncertainty. I support the approval of Modification 8 to enable the operation to continue contributing to the Hunter Valley region and the State of New South Wales.
