There is insufficient public transport in this area. It is only serviced by the 437 bus which is already busy. The light rail is not a usable service for this area. There doesn’t seem to be any updates to infrastructure to support the extra population

The proposed development up to 11 stories is inappropriate for this location based on the significant bulk and height of 5 buildings. A smaller five-story development has already been rejected in 2023 by the land and environment court and the new proposal will only increase those unacceptable impacts. The scale is completely out of context with the surrounding community and does not demonstrate a responsible or appropriate approach to increasing density while respecting the current community. Additional with no investment into critical public transport for Leichhardt which is already at capacity this is a proposal that cannot and should not be approved.

I am objecting to this development due to it's inappropiate size and bulk. William Street comprises mainly of 2 or 3 level buildings and all the present buildings sit well within the precinct.This development would create unacceptable overshadowing and ruin the historic feel of the street, not to mention ruining the lives of residing residents.It will present more issues such as lack of parking and increase of traffic on Darley road, and mounting pressure on existing infrastucture. The new development should use the current envelope for its plans, to harmonize with existing building works and all the other buildings on the street. This development does not belong in this location, but on Parramatta Road. Leichhardt has already met its housing obligation plans and the InnerWest already has the fifth highest housing density in Australia. The only winners in this development would be the developers and innerwest council.This development does not provide adequate social housing.I am not against development, but call for a sensible sympathetic development, one that will preserve the integrity of Leichhardt and the William Street precinct.

I write to object to the proposed redevelopment of 40–76 William Street, Leichhardt.
I support well-designed housing growth in appropriate locations, but this proposal prioritises yield over good planning, with significant community impacts and no matching infrastructure investment.
My main concern is the excessive height and scale: 203 apartments across five buildings up to 11 storeys. A far smaller five-storey proposal for this site was previously refused by the Land and Environment Court for overshadowing and bulk and scale concerns. It's hard to see how a much larger scheme is now acceptable.
The development also risks unacceptable overshadowing, loss of sunlight, reduced privacy and diminished amenity for neighbours and the wider community.
Local infrastructure is already strained. Additional residents will add pressure to parks, schools, health services and community facilities, and to bus and light rail services already at or near capacity.
The proposal also offers only 5% affordable housing for 15 years — a limited benefit given the scale of height and density being sought.
Good planning requires growth balanced with amenity and infrastructure. This proposal fails that test. I urge the consent authority to refuse it as submitted, or at minimum require a substantial reduction in height and scale, with infrastructure commitments secured first.
