International battery incidents demonstrate that large-scale battery storage facilities require rigorous, site-specific risk analysis and emergency planning which has NEVER been done by the authoritarian NSW Government’s DPIE/DPHI or IPCN.

The assessment prioritises predatory vested interests and hasty deployment over a complete examination of long-term risks, costs and consequences.

Should consent ultimately be granted, we request that conditions of approval include:
• coordinated cumulative monitoring across both BESS developments;
• strengthened landscape screening requirements, including measurable establishment, maintenance and replacement standards for both sites;
• strengthened operational noise limits that recognise the tourism setting;
• independent ongoing monitoring of both visual and acoustic impacts, with mandatory implementation of additional mitigation where required;
• restrictions on construction activities during weekends and peak tourism periods; and
• clear and enforceable decommissioning obligations to ensure the site can be fully restored at the conclusion of its operational life.
