I have travelled through this area. It is a truly beautiful and unique part of Australia and must be preserved for future generations.

Important terrestrial and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall mining but instead protected in a state conservation area. The Angus Place and the adjoining Springvale mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings. Centennial Coal must not be allowed to simply replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations. The sandstone strata supporting the 22 nationally endangered swamps, including the 7 shrub swamps must not be fractured. The proposed clearing of 14 hectares of forest for an additional ventilation facility is excessive and its proposed location close to the Wolgan River is unacceptable. The proposed discharge of up to 43.8ML/day of eco-toxic mine effluent must be treated using reverse osmosis technology to remove all metals and salts before discharge to the Coxs River. Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. This creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it. Please require Centennial to revise this proposal to improve environmental outcomes. Carne Creek, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps that the current proposal puts at risk must not be damaged.

If you have ever spent time in the beautiful Gardens of Stone and Lost City sites you will know why it is precious and must be protected. Mining, money and resources should not come at the cost of beauty that has stood for thousands of years. I realise the importance of mining to the Australian economy, but a huge income could be generated by marketing these beautiful sites that will never dry up or fall away of their own accord. Mines are temporary but these environments are eternal and deserve respect and reverence.

As well as providing direct jobs for 300+ people, the Springvale extension will continue Lithgow's proud and essential partnership with mining. Much of the towns existence is derived from the incomes and expenditure associated with mining. It is through direct employment, employment in the businesses that support the mines, and local retail and trade that the project is beneficial to Lithgow.
The mines also stimulate spending in Bathurst and other nearby regional centres.
Please consider the social and environmental BENEFITS before buying into any anti-mining hysteria. Become familiar with the issues and how they will be managed to understand that Mining, when conducted in a responsible manner CAN coexist with the environment.

Springvale is a major contributor to the Lithgow, Wallerawang, Portland workforce. Both directly and indirectly with associated industries. Springvale also contributes to the welfare of the community in an educational, health and sporting way, in other words it directly supports the whole community.
The acceptance of this proposal is significantly important with regard to current coal mining industries situation.

Springvale Mine will continue to support a local workforce of over 300 employees. The mine also plays a large role in supplying coal for local electricity generation. It also plays an important part in the local sporting and community groups, which is possible by having local employment opportunities.
