Hi,

I wish to object to this project for a number of reasons being:
-Inadequate survey of the bat alley. While surveys have occurred in 1998 that showed that pregnant Bent-wings were using the Bat Alley, the current survey did not complete adequate surveys to determine if the site is a maternity roost.
-The number of bats using the bat alley roost is not known. This roost may be very important for threatened cave dependent bat species, however this is not known from the current inadequate surveys.
-There is no rationale for providing a 30 metre buffer from the bat alley to the impact area. Why was this distance chosen? Will any monitoring occur to determine if bat numbers decline post construction? To do this, the number of bats within the bat alley need to be determined first.
-The proposed 'offsets' listed under the offsets heading are predominantly mitigation.
-No formal offsets are proposed, which is inconsistent with the EPBC Act Offset policy. In particular offsets for Tetratheca juncea must occur.

I have worked with the Centennial group for 29 years and in that time, the company has had a good track record within the local area with minimal impact to the people who live here. I should know as i have lived in the area all of my 61 years, living 10 kilometres from the Newstan mine. Centennial has over the years provided many jobs for the community as well as flow on employment with contractors, electrical, mechanical etc. This secondary employment has also supported local businesses with their own continued level of employment.
Coal mining has been and should continue to be a valuable commodity for the local electricity generation on the western side of Lake Macquarie.
My son-in-law and his family has also benefited from Centennial's continued presence in the area with him being employed within the Coal transport sector to the port of Newcastle.
Centennial has recently spent millions of dollars to control environmental impacts in the immediate area around Newstan in particular with a clean water plant.
To approve this recent project would also benefit the local community with extra employment when and if Newstan reopens.
For the local population, the Centennial project is necessary for us to continue to enjoy our way of life as has been done for over 100 years.

I support this submission. I am one of 500 current employees of Centennial Coal. I maintain a cattle bussiness in the local area and buy produce, machinery, food and utilise local bussinesses wherever I can which has a positive input into the local area.
Centennial has involvement with local sporting groups and supports local events community groups and fund raisers.
Centennial supplies coal to the local power stations

I support the Centennial Coal Northern Coal Logistics proposal for the following reasons -
- As I am employed by Centennial Coal my future employment will rely on the development going ahead. In addition, my current standard of living and way of life would be compromised as well as some 500 other employees who work for Centennial. If the Newstan mine were to re-open then this number may increase to around 1000 employees
- I use the business districts of both Morisset and Toronto, for example buying groceries at Woolworths and other services in these areas
- I am a supporter of the Macquarie Scorpions football team and my son plays soccer for the Toronto Stags, both of whom are sponsored by Centennial Coal. I would like to see this support continue
- Centennial has had been a good corporate citizen in the local area and in particular has minimised any environmental effects. I am an avid mountain bike rider and ride regularly in the hills around Mandalong Mine. I have not seen any areas that have been adversely affected by mining
- Centennial supplies around 40% of the coal required for generating local electricity, and this is of great importance for the people of NSW

I support the submission for the project because I work for a subcontractor to Centennial Coal and if this project does not go ahead the company i work for will be forced to downsize dramatically and I will likely have to seek work elsewhere.

If this project goes ahead it will not just assist myself and our family to continue to live and work in the area but i see that it will assist thousands of people - not just those that will be directly employed by Centennial. There will be subcontracting companies like the one i work for and all of their employees and families, suppliers and all of their employees and families, right down to the bakery and its employees and families that we stop at to get morning tea and lunch from most days.
Without this project i see thousands upon thousands of businesses, families and individuals suffer and forced to leave the area, inturn effecting local unrelated businesses (like bakeries, grocery stores, fuel stations, etc) and schools and preschools being effected also.

The positive long term effects of this project going ahead for the area are huge!

Centennial are very environmentally conscious organisation. Centennial supplies coal for the local electricity commission.
Centennial supports work for a local workforce in the Lake Macquarie & Newcastle area, and supplies work for local Sub Contractors.
Centennial also supplies work for the Coal Haulage company that supports about 50 employees from the local area.

As a long-standing Security Service provider at the various Centennial Coal sites situated on the New South Wales Central Coast, Yates Security Group Pty Ltd has no doubt that the changes proposed to integrate its existing coal processing, handling and transportation infrastructure will impact positively on all concerned.
The Yates Security personnel assigned to the above mentioned sites are sourced from the local community and are valued, competent employees who are reliant on the Centennial Coal sites for their livelihoods and it therefore follows that they in turn are able to support local commerce by spending in the local area. If this project is allowed to commence Yates Security may well be in a position to offer further employment opportunities within the local community.
During our tenure at the Centennial Coal sites, we have had the opportunity to witness first-hand the time and attention Centennial Coal devotes to the safety of its employees, its mindfulness of the wellbeing of the surrounding communities and the steps it takes to maintain the area's environmental integrity.
Yates Security Group Pty Ltd supports wholeheartedly the proposed Northern Coal Logistics Project.

I wish to support the Northern Coal Logistics Project as this is in the best interest of our Community. As a worker who has been employed for many years in this region i feel strongly about this project and would like to see it carried through for a number of reasons:
* local economy which is in vital need of a boost of money
* jobs which are sadly on the decline in this area
* sustaining employment so that businessess can make money and share witht hte local people
*most importantly is that the impact apon residents is minimal as all coal will be away from public roads and not interfere with transport or road users make this a very positive step forward in both the local economy and preserving jobs.

This project will ehance and prolong employment opportunities as well as help to support local business groups, contractors and various community groups. There is also the fact that it will be needed to prolong our local energy generation which itself plays a large role in our commuity.
As a resident of the lake maquarie and central coast area for the past 35 years i can personally say i would be more than happy to support this project as i have personally seen how Centennial has interacted with the local communities offering employement to many families and being activley involved in community events such as sports, education/training.

As a long term local resident for over 40 years in the areas of the Central Coast i feel it is extremely important to continue supplying our natural resources to the customers as the benifits to the local,state and Australian economies are huge in the way of supplying good stable employment to the local population
as well as helping communities in a number of ways. Thank you for your time
