RE: OBJECTION TO PROPOSED MERINO SOLAR FARM SSD 59155459

My name is Odette, and my husband and I co-locate with my in-laws at the above address and assist in the operations of the property and livestock. My Husbands parents and siblings have resided at the property at various times of our lives and continually frequent the property. The family have contributed significantly to the establishment and investment of the property, infrastructure and in particular to beautiful home we constructed in the early 2000s. My family, including my husband and three children frequent the property and we enjoy the rural, agricultural and natural landscape, which provides a pleasant get away from the industrialization or Sydney.
It is very disappointing and concerning that a Solar Farm has been proposed within a very short distance to the property (approximately 700m), having a significant impact on the property, our lifestyles and wellbeing. More concerning is that the owners and occupants have not been communicated with, or consulted with. The EIS process was not simply accessible and that information surrounding the development and environmental impacts is not easily accessible. We would have expected that a letter drop and more importantly a direct letter to the landowners be issued particularly as the property was identified in the EIS. My in-laws are elderly and not very familiar with technology making it hard for them to learn about the proposed solar farm. Fortunately with the support of nearby land owners they were alerted to the application. The process is unfair and inconsiderate, and we are deeply troubled and dissatisfied with the lack of transparency, consultation and fairness. We understand that other properties have been consulted, but we have not been, even though our property is clearly impacted (we are ‘R6’ as identified in the EIS).
This solar farm has a direct impact on us, and my in-laws’ property. The property home which is positioned high on the hill faces directly south at the proposed Solar farm, as does the main entry. The occupants’ welcome visitors through the South facing front door and most of the gatherings occur on the southern verandah, often avoiding the northern sun. The house was purposely positioned to take advantage of the beautiful landscapes with surrounding verandas to enjoy the scenery, of which we found the southern to be most pleasing.
The eyesore of the solar farm and the potential reflection will make our place of gatherings unhealthy, uncomfortable and displeasing with the glare, reflection and un-aesthetically pleasing (ugly) landscape, looking at a field of solar panels in lieu of our loved view of the Southern landscape and distant mountains. We enjoy frequenting and living at the property due to the natural, rural and calming location, offering us a natural get away and tranquility from the urban and industrial landscapes we live amongst in urban centers and metropolitan Sydney.

THE SOLAR FARM HAS A DIRECT IMPACT ON OUR PROPERTY, OUR DAILY LIVES, HEALTH, MENTAL WELLBEING AND EXPERIENCES!

As with all solar farms we are aware of the other issues, including agricultural impact, environmental degradation and negative impacts, wild life hazards, habitat loss, disruptions to fauna, and the other risks associated with these farms including risks of grass fires. We have read many reports outlining the negative impacts of Solar farms and their poor efficiencies, we are not in favor of Solar Farms and this one in particular.
Another great concern to us, apart from our direct impacts and experiences is that the property value will be impacted, due to the setting of the property becoming industrialized and the views being destroyed. One of the greatest value of this property is its position and 360 degree views, with the most pleasant views being to the South, which is where the Solar Farm is proposed. Real-estate professionals have provided their feedback, professional opinions and experience, concluding that the property would be severely impacted and devalued. This is not a position any property owner would be willing to accept, and the emotional and mental burden associated with this is not acceptable. The family’s love for the property and location could be impacted, severely damaging my in-laws’ life, emotional and mental wellbeing. We also understand that the likelihood of insurances premiums will be increased due to the property risks associated to neighboring a solar farm.
This industrialization of this landscape, infrastructure and properties will greatly impact the values of these properties and the potential to subdivide and sell this beautiful realty in the future.

THE SOLAR FARM HAS A DIRECT IMPACT ON OUR PROPERTY VALUE AND FUTURE POTENTAIL!

The property has been owned for 26 years with my in-laws dreaming of making it their forever home, a place to retire and enjoy the rest of their lives, to enjoy their undisturbed views. Views which would for the lifetime be an agricultural, natural and rural landscape, it is unfair that their dreams and desires be crushed by such a development and my in-laws are not the only property owners who are devastated by this proposed solar farm.
We believe that the proposed development be rejected on many factors but also taking into consideration our direct impacts. We request that DPHI reject the application and ask that the department urgently review its standards for community engagement, especially with CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) families and intergenerational landholders.
We are extremely frustrated with the situation, lack of consultation and the that our own research had found misleading and incorrect information provided in the application and EIS which also gives us concern as to the accuracy of the information and the competency of the planning consultants. We advise that the department encourage this developer to look for a more remote location for their proposal which will not only affect a community of people but the entire neighborhood and township.
We kindly and desperately request that DPHI consider our positions and represent the stakeholders, residents and neighbors impacted by this proposal, and do what is in the best interests of our land and livelihoods.

Kind Regards

Odette Nasr

I object to the this project for the following reason-
I love a sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains
Not scarred by solar panels, that could affect our grains
I love the rugged mountains, the drought and flooding rain
I love her far horizons, as far as the eye can see
No ugly solar farms in view, the wide brown land for me!
We moved to old Gundary, it’s lifestyle was the draw
And while it stays the way it is, we couldn’t ask for more
So please don’t plant that crop of panels, that farmings not for us
As lifestyle goes, we’d rather walk, than catch that ugly bus!
