I wholly believe this project will only benefit the local community further. Any concerns regarding its environmental impact have no grounds given the already stringent management of environmental controls in the community.

I fully support BlueScope Steels investment in the 6BF Reline project. Its critical that as a country we maintain steelmaking capacity, not just for jobs but as a crucial component of our national security.

Having worked at BlueScope for over 30 years I am well aware of how important this project is to the community including myself and my family. I was aware of the effort and capital being spent to make this project as sustainable as possible for the future. I was so impressed with the work being done that I wanted to play a direct part in it and was luck enough to be able to join the project team.

As a supplier to BlueScope we strongly support this project in order to keep our workforce employed and maintain a local manufacturing business.

This project is essential to ensure an iron and steelmaking facility is retained within Australia. Iron and steelmaking capabilities are essential for Australian sovereignty.

Provides jobs for the region. Multiple and large investments have been made, which will help maximize local production. There is also significant planning into environmental upgrades.

The Number 6 Blast Furnace reline project supports 10,000 direct and indirect jobs in Wollongong using local contractors and suppliers.
There will be upwards of 250 new jobs created during construction and the project is a $1 billion total project investment for BlueScope. The project will be completed in 3 years (by 2026) and BlueScope will spend over $100m in environmental improvement upgrades to prepare the business for green steelmaking in the future. This is an exciting and critical project for the Illawarra region.

This project will provide ongoing stability for the Illawarra region, not only the steelworks, but for the broader community through the requirement for external firms to provide services for its successful completion. At a higher level, this project supports the overall manufacturing industry in both NSW and Australia, reducing the reliance on materials being imported from abroad. The significant capital expenditure on carbon abatement aspects of the project will provide a not insignificant impact on the local, NSW, Australian and world environments
