This is a significant contribution to enhancing "sovereign steel making capability".
The execution of this project will deliver world class, blast furnace iron making capability, and provide a socially responsible and significant economic boost to local, regional and Australian based businesses. We at BPS strongly endorse this project to a speedy planning approval.

I work for BlueScope and therefore can observe first hand the impact a $1 billion investment will have for the better in the Wollongong community in terms of jobs - both directly and with suppliers and contractors supporting the project. Bluescope supports around 10000 jobs already and around 250 new jobs will be created for the reline alone.
In addition there will be a number of upgrades and new equipment built into the BF reline that will improve the environmental impact.
Not allowing the BF 6 reline project will have terrible consequences for employees, suppliers, contractors, the wider Wollongong community and NSW given the economic impact of not being able to continue to manufacture steel locally.
I respectfully request that the BF6 proposal is supported.
Thank you

I think this project is vital for the Illawarra region and the people who live in the area..
The reline of a Blast furnace is critical to the longevity of the steelworks and manufacturing in Australia.
The less reliant we are on other countries for steel products the better placed Australia is for the future. Bluescope steel produces the highet quality steel in the world which is in high demand world wide.

The steelwork in the Illawarra area bad been the backbone of the region for around 100 years. This will most likely be the last Blast Furnace rebuild while new processes are developed to an industrial level. To me this Blast Furnace need to be rebuilt in the interim with improved environment systems over the current furnace. We need to keep BlueScope operational for the sake of the Illawarra and Australia

I strongly support the reline of the #6 Blast Furnace, as it will ensure sustainability of the Blue scope Steelworks. The steelworks is an essential and integral part of the local economy in the Illawarra region, providing significant direct and indirect employment opportunities. Failure to ensure the viability of Iron production with the reline of the furnace will impact on the capacity of the steelworks to fulfill its capacity to produce steel products. It is my understanding that significant environmental initiatives are being included in the rebuild to address issues such as carbon dioxide outputs. I appreciate the importance of industr needing to address the impacts on climate change, including strategies to produce green steel. I also appreciate that iron production requires the use of metallurgical coal and cannot complete achieve carbon neutrality in the iron making stage. I also understand the work will also ensure the blast furnace can utilize such new innovations as Hydrogen in the production process where possible in the future. I understand that Blue Scope is a responsible industry and endeavors where ever possible to ensure its activities have smaller negative impacts on the local community and environment.
