I would like to express my deep concerns and opposition to the plans to build a large-scale Energy from Waste (EfW) plant at Eastern Creek, NSW.
I note and endorse the reasonable and well informed position taken by the Blacktown City Council in calling on the State Government to block plans for the location of a high-temperature waste incinerator in a residential area.
I would like to add my concerns regarding air quality:
The heavily populated Greater Western Sydney region lies in a geological and atmospheric basin. The prevailing air currents influenced by sea breezes, the Blue Mountains, and oscillating temperature variations in this region result in well known and cumulative pollution levels in this basin. {At times of bushfire or hazard reduction burns this phenomenon is highly visible and often very slow to clear.)
Even if it could be assumed that the facility will operate at International Emissions Directive (IED) limits, that emission control technologies are of a high standard, or that the emission levels on any one day are considered to be at safe levels, I have not seen any evidence of modelling that takes into consideration the cumulative effect of additional pollution levels generated by this proposed plant.
What guarantees are there that "best available technology" will be matched with management, compliance, accountability and best practice under all foreseeable conditions?
How can an accurate assessment of the cumulative environmental and health impacts be made when the company itself is disingenuous and ambiguous in describing the specific nature of waste/fuel sources.
In closing I would like to paint a very human scenario. Here in the Western Suburbs our family really looks forward to the cool southerly that brings down the temperature after a long hot spell. We throw open all the doors and windows to let that cool air through our house.
We live, like so many thousands of others, just north of this proposed EfW plant. In the future will we be flushing our homes with the gyre of polluted air containing accumulated levels of hazardous particulates and gases that, might have passed daily emissions tests but, have built up to harmful levels over successive hot days or temperature inversions?
"The effect of air quality on public health is of vital importance for the Western Sydney region, which is predicted to be home to an additional 1 million people and half of Sydney's entire population by 2031."
http://media.uow.edu.au/releases/UOW197918.html
Please do not let this EfW plant go ahead and add to the already complex and cumulative health hazards faced by families who have, in good faith made our homes in Western Sydney.

I oppose plans to build an Energy from Waste plant at Eastern Creek.
There are still significant information shortfalls in the EIS, including the source of the waste and the inability of the applicant to guarantee procedures and processes that satisfactorily demonstrate how all industrial waste will be appropriately sorted.
They are still to guarantee that their predictions of low emissions are valid and achievable.
The incinerator proposal fails to comply with the area's zoning requirements and is therefore prohibited.
It will have a significant impact on critically endangered ecological communities.
Furthermore the location and design of the Energy from Waste plant fails to encourage a high standard of development.

I object to this incinerator. I do not want my health to be negatively impacted by this despicable piece of machinery. I don't want the price of my family's beautiful home to drop due to potential buyers understandably not wanting to live near this attrocity of an incinerator. Do not go ahead with this. No reasonable person who lives in an area that will be affected would agree to this. Please consider the health and well-being of the public instead of revenue.

I object to this incinerator. It would be hazardous to the health and well-being of all who live nearby, and will also drastically reduce the price of property.

I am only objecting on the basis that it will be using outdated technology.
We should be installing a plasma converter
http://science.howstuffworks.com/environmental/energy/plasma-converter.htm
This technology is much better in that it is cleaner and more profitable
