Ride Waterpark is apposed to the sand mine application at Bobs Farm for
numerous environmental and economic reasons as well as health and
safety concerns.
The proposed mining facility poses threat to the environment and our
business by means of potential draw down of the aquifers that charge
our ground water, and the associated effects on water quality. Our
property is less than 100m from the sand mine property. If we were to
lose this water it could make our business unviable. It would also be
devastating to local farming and agriculture.
Please refer to attached geotechnical studies supporting our concerns
that the sand mine would negatively impact surrounding ground water
quality.
Our business is tailored to the Port Stephens area and we believe a
more suitable development for our community, being based around
tourism, education and sport. We will be strengthening the local
environmental ecosystems, drainage and improving water quality. We are
supportive of development in our LGA that has a positive contribution
to our community. With very few jobs created by the proposed sand mine
at Bobs Farm there seems to not even be an economical contribution for
our area.
Our land is the only property in the area zoned for "outdoor
recreation" and is fully supported by Port Stephens council.
Also of high concern for health and safety is silica dust. A sand
quarry disturbing this highly hazardous and carcinogenic substance
right next to a primary school is unexceptionably wrong. It is widely
known that silica dust is more hazardous than asbestos. Let alone the
numerous safety issues of high truck and dog traffic alongside the
school.
