As principal of Ocean Shores Public School I have been very involved with the establishment of a close partnership with the North Byron Parklands. The organisation has been extremely supportive of the school both in providing $25000 to support our music programs, the involvement of students in significant tree planting and environmental programs and in the establishment of an excellent cross country course on the site that has been used for local , district and regional carnivals.
The team has had considerable contact with students and endeavours to make a real commitment to our local community. I fully support the application.

I am involved in the music industry and will always support and appreciate being involved in 2 music events held on this property. They are by far some of the best events run in this country. They provide work for a lot of people in the industry and allow for promoters to showcase fantastic australian and international talent. Music festivals have such a great community vibe and generation of income for small time businesses who put in a lot of work to provide services/products to patrons. In general the patrons look forward to these annual events which allows people time out from their everyday lives and to enjoy great live entertainment albeit art or music or visual installations. These are vital annual events that need to supported. I love making the annual trip to these events and the added bonus of enjoying some local hot spots of nature and food and relaxation while i am there.

In light of the proposed ammenments to the Parklands site, I strongly oppose the proposed changes.

I have witnessed first-hand the positive impact of this festival site, both as a concert-goer and resident of the area.
The Byron shire remains a rich cultural hub, but will only thrive as such with opportunities via sites such as the Parklands area. Considering the amount of development in the Byron shire recently that could be regarded as solely commerce-driven, the Parklands site is an asset to the area and should remain in its current form, with current allowances in-tact.
Please allow this site to flourish (to its full potential) as an ongoing festival location in the Byron shire. I have witnessed only positive outcomes relating to cultural enhancement, employment opportunities and tourism from this site.
The Byron shire remains on the map as a musical hotspot for a reason, if these lifelines are cut and only other (less culturally rich) developments proceed, we will end up with another Gold Coast - and no one wants that.
