WESTCONNEX NOT THE RIGHT THING FOR SYDNEY
WestConnex as proposed is the wrong solution at the wrong time for Sydney. It is out of step with international best practice when it comes to transport policy and the creating
liveable, economically viable cities in the 21st century.
Global experience and research has shown conclusively that these kinds of toll road mega-projects are hugely expensive and provide only short-term relief from traffic congestion. I have yet to hear of an independent transport expert who backs the project. WestConnex will increase air pollution and traffic, and expose NSW taxpayers to unacceptably high levels of financial risk. Even the EISs produced for the various stages of WestConnex show it is not a long-term solution to Sydney's congestion problem.
This is one reason why I strongly object to the westconnex

The proposal will generate excessive traffic in the area that the local infrastructure will not be equipped to cope with. Additionally, the loss of part of Sydney Park would be extremely regrettable. This is an important community resource and on my daily walks there with my 2 dogs I see all areas of the park being used and enjoyed. We can't afford to lose any of it.

There is no vision with the westconnex. Our city should plan for the future, a future where pollution is reduced dramatically, our environment is second to none (keep mature trees and habitats) respect for community. Where public transport is world leading. Instead we are going backwards and at a cost of 18 billion dollars and goring by the minute.
Another hundred or so reasons to object to the westconnex

To whom it may concern,
Firstly I would like to congratulate the NSW government on progressive improvement of the public transportation system over the last few years. In particular the introduction of the quiet carriages and the palpable improvement of customer service communications accross the NSW network due to improved voice communications.
I write to you as a Newtown resident and a mother of two young boys who I expect will attend Newtown Performing Arts School over the next few years.
The proposal to build the West Connect and to create an exit point at St Peters is directly detrimental to:
- the health of my two boys who both suffer from bad asthma
- it will destroy the quality of air in the neighbourhood and therefore force me to consider a school that is not the local public school.
- it will destroy the community life of King Street of which I'm an active participant and support through patronage.
- it will impact my local community through polution and extra traffic on our already crowded local roads
- it will be a wasted opportunity for the government to improve public transport instead of sinking money into a road that goes against all sustainable, economic and environmental logic.
- it will destroy a significant portion of Sydney Park which we use for excercise daily
- it will increase the noise pollutoin which directly effects me personally with one sided hearing due to a brain tumour.
I strongly encourage the NSW government to apply logic and economic sense and to revise their thinking of the plan to proceed with the Westconnect. Please also do not proceed with an exit point at St Peters, which will be detrimental to the local community on multiple levels and in this instance is short sighted.
I encourage you to seek an alternative and to divert any monies into improving NSW public transportation.
Yours sincerely,
Resident of Newtown, mother of two boys (8 and 10 years)

EIS IS SEVERELY FLAWED
The EIS lacks rigour and sound analysis, despite the huge volume of documentation. This lack of rigour and analysis is consistent across all chapters and appendices. The project objectives are biased towards a motorway solution, so that any proposed alternative falls short of the proposed solution. Similarly, the work undertaken in the EIS is highly compliance driven, and fails to take into account opportunities or strategic impacts, and the assessment of cumulative impacts is almost negligent.

SHOULDN'T THE GOVERNMENT BE ACTING TO REDUCE GREEN HOUSE GASSES??? IT WOULD IF IT CARED
The whole WestCONnex system will increase greenhouse gas emissions in Sydney at a time when we should be doing all we can to reduce them. We are not convinced by a method of analysis which does not look at alternatives but instead compares the New M5 project against a `do nothing' scenario to claim a reduction in Greenhouse Gas Emissions.
Just many more reasons to object to the westconnex
