I object to the loss of green space, Broadmeadow is marked for a large residential development and with this all green areas need to be preserved. This area is also flood prone and should never be developed.

I believe the stadium the children use now is outdated and unsafe. They deserve better. All of our future athletes deserve better.

I am writing to express my strong support for the Hunter Indoor Sports Centre (HISC) as a local resident (Georgetown) and a parent of two junior basketball players.
The current stadium is no longer fit for purpose. It is in need of desperate repair, and does not have the volume of courts required for the number of basketballers. We regularly use the courts at Macquarie College and Hunter Sports High for weekly games, due to lack of courts at the stadium. Junior basketballers miss out on registration to play, as the current facilities are struggling to keep up with the growing interest in basketball. What a shame that local children are missing out in participating in a team sport, keeping them active and engaged.
The HISC will not only serve our young ballers, it will cater for other sports, as well as those with a disability, who cannot access the current stadium.
The small number of (vocal) local residents do not want the HISC in their backyard, however the number of Newcastle (and beyond) residents who will benefit from the HISC is enormous. Newcastle has an enormous amount of greenspace and the location of the proposed HISC is just a fraction of the greenspace that is available at Lambton (and on adjoining ovals to the proposed HISC).
The HISC would provide much-needed additional space for training and competition. It would enable more children and teens to play basketball in a well-equipped, modern facility close to home. With expanded facilities, our region would also be able to host larger tournaments and attract teams from across the state, providing further opportunities for local players to gain exposure and experience at higher levels of competition.
Regards,
Erin

Newcastle Basketball’s existing stadium is many years past it use by date. While the site is not ideal the state government and council cannot provide anything more suitable therefore I support the project at the Lambton site.
While extensive investigation has been done on flooding and traffic flow the basketball association & council need all the professional help and ongoing planning to get these two areas right. Locals are concerned. They need to be reassured that all is being done to protect their living standards and home investments
The positive is the ongoing community growth and development of the sporting precinct with a first class facility for basketball and other venue users. As a key regional centre this will ensure all user groups can grow their participation levels and sporting profiles.
Please work together to get the best outcome
Government support and expertise is a must to ensure this is delivered successfully and all sectors of the NSW community benefit.

I support this project in the amended form. THe project has addressed the majority the community concerns, especially flood mitigation, traffic management, noise. ALternative sites have been proposed for loss of site amentity, The benefits of this project far outweigh the costs

Newcastle desperately needs a modern basketball facility to supplement the ageing Broadmeadow facility which is an embarrassment as a venue for state and higher level competitions.

There are so many kids that are missing out on playing basketball due to the lack of facilities. To engage more kids in the game we need a better facility. Newcastle has been very patient, now is the time, let’s make it happen, no more excuses, get it done!

Approval of a new stadium is highly supported by our community and families. The project is long overdue for development and improvement of the existing stadium. Current facilities cannot be used during weather (rain, heat etc) and are in desperate need for repair/ redevelopment. The project has our full support for approval.
