I support the development application . I am currently employed at Mandalong mine. Mandalong directly employs over 300 people and also contributes to the employment of many other people outside the industry. The major part of my income is spent in the local community .
My income from the mine also enables me to support a variety of charities as well as contributing to the well being of my family members and their lifestyles.
As a mineworker , I am proud to be able to support the power supply that runs our hospitals , schools etc.

As a long standing employee of Mandalong Mine (owned by Centennial Coal) I would like to support the planned extension of our lease.
I would particularly like to point out Mandalong Mine's excellent record with regard to our ongoing committment to environmental issues and impacts, which has occurred since mining under Mandalong and surrounding areas over the last decade.
As an employee of over 30 years experience in the mining industry, I have been involved in consultation at community meetings to address any concerns raised about mining under the Mandalong Valley..
The Mandalong Mine's Environmental Department have addressed these concerns, and are committed to continued consultation and mediation with the community should any future concerns be raised.
Mandalong Mine employs over 300 people, the majority of whom live and raise their families in the local area. To ensure their continued employment, this project needs to proceed.
It is important to mention the support of loal businesses and sporting clubs that employees of Mandalong Mine provide. If the mine ceased to continue, this financial support of local businesses would be greatly affected.
In my case, I have raised my three children in Western Lake Macquarie, all of whom have been involved in local sport and cultural activities. I, myself, have continued to swim with a local masters swimming cliub, and the financial support from Mandalong Colliery has helped our club to flourish.
The majority of coal extracted from Mandalong Colliery is used in yet another Two locally situated Power Stations to generate electricity.Contract prices are a lot lower than with export coal, and this assists in keeping NSW state electricity prices lower, compared to other countries. The transportation of our coal to the power srtations has little impact on our environment, as it is transported by conveyors underground.through existing workings, and then via an enclosed conveyor system. It is not trucked along local roads.
In conclusion, I remain committed to the Mandalong mine project, as well as to minimisation of impacts on the environment, through continued quality improvements and community consultation, so that the best outcomes can be achieved for the local economy and the community as a whole.

My husband works at centenial mandalong and for him to continue to provide myself and our young children we need this extension approved. My children have had to use the public health system many times, and the royalties from coalmining help pay for our doctors and nurses, for teachers to educate our kids and the police and fire services to keep us safe.
I strongly urge you to approve the extension.

I fully support the mandalong south extension. I like my job i live close to work and i love the lifestylye this mine provides with its income and roster for my young family. There are many employees from mandalong mine that live in my suburb and our income is spent in the community like at the butchers, the local mechanic and many other local retailers.
so if the mine was to close in 2018 the have a devasting follow on effect in our community and many others.

Mandalong has an existing workforce of over 300 and this Project will continue that employment until 2035. The work force contributes to the community supporting local bussiness.
Mandalong has a good track record of extracting coal under the Mandalong valley with minimal impacts to the people that live there or to the water resources or to the ecology of the area.
The proposed mine plan is designed to minimise the environmental impacts to levels similar to the existing Mandalong Mine.

Hello,

I wish to support the expansion of Mandalong Mine.

I work for Centennial Coal at Mandalong Mine and do not, along with 300 other people want to be out of work. Our taxes are major contributor to the country and our wages are keeping many businesses in the local are alive. There would be 300 families displaced if the mine does not get the expansion approved, most of these people would be forced to move from the area to seek employment. Centennial Mandalong also employees the services of many local contractors and without the mine these business also will close.

Centennial Mandalong, as is all Centennial Mines, is committed to the environment. Recently Mandalong Mine commissioned a Gas Flare to reduce the effects of mining on the atmosphere. Another project nearing completion at the Mine is a Ventilated Air Methane Regenerative After Burner (VAM-RAB). This plant is co funded between Centennial Coal and the Government. The plant is being constructed by another local firm and needs the mine to keep their business going. The VAM-RAB shows the commitment that Centennial has to the environment by taking on a world first project that long term could lead to a all mines operation and destroying all of their fugitive emissions.

In conclusion, any person driving along the M1 (F3) would not know that the mine is located at the intersection of the M1 and Mandalong Road. Like wise, if you drive along Mandalong Road, the only way you can tell that there is a coal mine in amongst the Protected Trees is that there is a sign out the front. There is no dust, noise, smell or coal stockpiles. The mine supports local sporting teams, clubs and schools, so why not let it continue operating?

Thanks

Im writting this submission in support for the south extension of mandalong mine.
I am an employee at mandalong and im 29 years old. Mandalong has the strictest health, safety and environment policies I have ever worked under. They hold a very high standard which every employee is accountable for upholding.
This is shown in their excellent track record with going about business with minimal environmental impact, which will also be true with the southern extension.
With over 300 employees at Mandalong and hundreds more benefiting through contract work both on and off site, it would be a huge blow to the community should the mine close prematurely.
If approved it will extend the life of the mine and my career there up untill 2035. This means the local community will continue to benefit from local spending, the companies support of local organisations and groups and from reliable and affordable coal supply to local electricity suppliers.

Thank you

I believe the Mandalong Southern Extension Project should be given approval, as the company is a significant contributor to the local community, and the state as a whole.

The mine has a large workforce of over 300 locally based people that will be relying on the continuation of the mine in order to support their families and local businesses in which they spend their money.

The mine has a good track record of safely extracting coal in the Mandalong area, while minimising the impacts to local residents. I believe the small number of negative impacts the mine has on the surrounding area are far outweighed by the positive influence the mine has on the local community through the employment of local people and businesses. The state as a whole will benefit through mining royalties paid to the state government, and the fact that local power stations can continue to generate electricity for the residents of New South Wales.

Centennial Coal continues to play a role in supporting local sporting and community groups in the local area, and this support could not remain without Centennial continuing to mine coal in the Mandalong South project area.

I believe Centennial Coal is a responsible mining company, and if granted, the Mandalong Southern Extension Project would continue to be of great benefit to the community well into the future.

I am employed at Mandalong Mine as a tradesman and believe that the project extension is vitally important to the local community.Over 300 people are employed fulltime at the mine and more gain part time employment. Local businesses benefit from immediate sales to the mine, or from the employees living in the area and then buying locally.

NSW needs a guaranteed power supply that is affordable, Mandalong Mine currently has contracts to supply coal for the generation of electricity and has a proven track record for reliable and timely supply of coal to the local power stations.. To keep power costs down it makes sense to use the infrastructure that is already in place which also reduces the impact on the environment by transporting the coal on conveyor belts directly to the power stations at Erraring and Vales Point . Most of these conveyor belts are underground with only the last 2 kilometers of the journey to both power stations being on the surface.

Mandalong Mine has a proven track record of being consistently able to work within the consent guidelines put down by the planning authorities and have worked well with the local community groups to ensure any concerns have been dealt with. Many of the local schools and sporting clubs have benefitted from sponsorship provided by the company.

Over the past 15 or so years the Lake Macquarie and Newcastle regions have lost many of its large employer industries and needs approval of projects like the Mandalong Mine extension for the continued employment of its uniquely skilled workers.
