I object to AGL's application to extend the lapsing date of the approval for the Dalton Power Project by 2 years.

I am raising three young children in Gunning where we enjoy an idyllic country lifestyle; clean fresh air away from the smog found in cities, serenity, a picturesque landscape, and quaint small businesses, along with a caring community. We also enjoy the animals in this area, from Australia's unique wildlife to the traditional farm animals. Due to the proximity to Canberra and the charming country lifestyle opportunity, we have seen an increase in people (especially families) moving into the towns of Gunning and Dalton.

I believe all the wonderful things that make this country town beautiful will be severely compromised if AGL are given the opportunity to extend the lapsing date of the approval for the Dalton Power Project by any amount of time.

I believe this area sits on a natural fault line and as such poses a real and imminent risk for a huge power plant being built on this land; a natural disaster.

The many and varied pollutants from AGL's power plant will encroach on the everyday living standards of residents and place their land, livestock and own lives in danger. Land values will drop dramatically and people will be deterred from moving into these charming small towns. Air pollution from the power plant will place the lives of residents, livestock and wildlife in danger of ill health.

We as a nation are capable of harnessing energy through much more environmentally friendly means, such as solar and wind. Thus it is thoroughly disappointing that we are still relying on and entertaining the outdated methods being put forward by AGL.

People matter; our lives, our children, our homes, our lands, our livestock, our wildlife, our businesses, our communities, our standard of living.

I object to AGL being allowed any more time.

Uncertainty
Their initial application was flawed by inadequate legislation and has been tainted by their own guilt of undeclared donations. By their own admission the company is unsure of what form the final project will be. There are too many ways AGL can change the project without further consultation. I do not trust that AGL has the interests of the Dalton community in mind when making the application for extension.

Environment
The original environmental studies are 7 years old and did not take fully into account the impact to the waterways. There are no mention of frogs in the initial report. I do not believe there were no frogs on that site, I live less than 4km from the site, but further from a creek, and yet we have frogs on our property, even in a dry year. There have been 2 endangered species found within 4km of the site in the last 5 years, one of these being the yellow spotted bell frog, once thought extinct.
A new environmental impact study is required.

Health
I bought property in Dalton 10 years ago as a long term investment. My 4 children are growing up here, and my wife and I intend to retire here once the children have finished school. I have severe chronic asthma and find the climate is good for my health, much more so than a more populated area. My brother, one of his children and my mother also suffer from asthma, and my aunt died from the condition.
None of my children have asthma, and I credit this to the air quality at Dalton.

I am unconvinced by AGL's data on air quality. The weather information their findings are based on was from Goulburn Airport, over 40km away.
The proposed site is in a valley, and a very different landscape to the Goulburn Airport, therefore it is unlikely any weather based findings are accurate.
I am unwilling to expose my children to the kind of pollution they would expect to find in a city of 20 million people, however that is what this proposed power plant will do.

I object to the proposed submission. It's will have a significant impact on the local environment and health of locals.

This is a terrible plan. Get some renewables going.

I wish to lodge my objection to AGL's proposed extension of time for the commencement of work on the proposed gas fired power plant project at Dalton NSW, and ask the NSW Department of Planning & Environment to refuse the application from AGL. (Mod 1 project Dalton Gas fired power plant).


1. AGL seeks to modify the project approval to extend the lapse date for a further two years to enable "AGL to review the application in line with current technology and energy market circumstances".

* Allowing AGL to review the DPP to assess "current/new technology" would be a shift away from the original approved proposal that clearly stated the technology to be used. An action to introduce different technology, including battery storage and more advanced turbines could substantially change the impact on the community and the environment than was stated in AGL's original submission.

* Consideration of "current/new technology" should only be considered via a new DPP application process and under the legislation and rules with which new proposals are considered, not the legislation (now repealed) under which the original project proposal was approved.

* AGL has had five years within which to make a decision to start building the power plant and it has chosen not to in this time. They have had 5 years to continually assess and consider changing market conditions.

* AGL have admitted that this project is `hedging their bets', `a gamble', they can't say it is needed, they aren't sure. But are willing for us to be collateral damage anyway.

2. AGL seeks to modify the project approval to extend the lapse date for a further two years to enable consultation with the local community, landholders and other stakeholders. AGL claims it wants to be a "trusted and respected member of the communities in which it operates". It claims it wants to engage beyond baseline regulatory requirements.

* AGL has shown no commitment to the community in the last five years. AGL is a landowner here yet it has contributed nothing to the Dalton community since becoming a landowner here including until the last 2 weeks actually spraying their noxious weeds that have been allowed to grow and spread more seeds in the last 4 and half years, affecting neighbouring properties as well.

* There are new environmental concerns. The area has recently been identified as an environmental hotspot with the recent finding of the southern pigmy perch and the yellow spotted southern bell frog in our water ways. The frog was thought gone for thirty years. A power plant will surely threaten these two endangered species.

* Noise generated by the plant is a huge issue.


3. AGL contend that extending the lapse date would not change the positive socio-economic benefits of the DPP. It talks of 5-10 long term jobs.

* Since the AGL announcement to suspend the DPP project the village of Dalton has grown. Families have moved here with no knowledge of the proposed plans by AGL.

People have made financial decisions about buying property and building in our community since the AGL announcement in October 2012. An extension of time for AGL would only serve to leave a cloud of concern and fear hanging over the new community members for the next two years.

It potentially has significant financial economic and environmental impacts on them that they did not foresee or were warned about. If the DPP is built those families may end up with property that is worth less than what they paid for it and borrowed to buy it.

* Dalton is a farming community and a tourist community. We are not technically qualified to work in a gas fired power plant. But then according to AGL, it will be operated remotely, not by locals, so what jobs?

* People come here to experience a peaceful quiet country village. They will not come here, or stay if the village is overshadowed by a power plant spewing toxic emissions into our air, our waterways and our country side. If we lose our reputation as a place of peaceful tranquillity then we will lose the people who want to live here and the people who want to visit. If we lose our people and our tourists then we lose our businesses and our jobs, our schools. We will lose our community.


* My family are 8th Generation farmers. We worry about the emissions and the noise affecting our stock, we worry about the value of our property. We are afraid for the future of our children and grandchildren.

Please do not say yes to the extension of time for this proposal. Our lives are at stake.

I oppose the mod 1 protect (AGL gas fired power plant )
We are situated less than 4 klms from the proposed site .
I invested in my property 9 years ago to get away from the pollutants that come with living in heavy populated areas . I narelle have lived here all my life , generations of farming and longevity , this will be no longer if the plant goes of ahead .

I live for the fresh air , the healthy rural life style .
It is detrimental to our health , we rely on our rain water to feed our organically grown vegetables and to drink , the emissions will contaminate it .
The power station will ruin our ideal if life , our health , our assets , our environment and our community .
Our homes take decades to increase in value , it is proven that our homes will not so much devalue but be worth nothing as we will not get a buyer or banks even looking at this town as they again with proof are classifying nearby homes a risk .
Why should everything we have worked hard to achieve be taken from us .
Our mortgages won't reduce , so money down the drain for us all.
We do not understand why these gas fired power stations are built where the old coal fired powers stations that have been shut down , the infrastructure is already there .
AGL have total disregard for the dalton people , children and elderly , the farmers , the animal or the environment .
The people that were sent to represent AGL , tony chapel and crew at the town meeting a couple of weeks ago after not hearing any form of communication in
5 years! Dismissed every question that was asked , no answers again .
We call on the nsw government and planning and anyone able to not give the extension AGL is asking for .
We have had a dark cloud hanging over our heads for many years we won't to be able to live with out uncertainty and fear and live out our days as healthy and peacefully as we can .
We don't want trucks coming through , ruining our roads , we don't want to hear the plant , feel the vibrations , we don't want to breathe or consume the toxicity it will emit we don't want to die early .
It will destroy our health , we rely on our rain water to feed our organically grown vegetables and to drink , the emissions will contaminate it .
