I am against the proposal for an extension of the planning of a Gas Power Plant in Dalton by AGL
We moved to Dalton as a family 10 years ago. We wanted our own family home and was unable to afford the city prices. We choose Dalton as it was a quite small community and at the time affordable to us. We sacrifice the luxury of being only a 20 min journey from work ,shops ,entertainment ,health care facilities, mobile coverage and other main services that you find in larger populated areas to have the peace and quite of a community,which i believe is what the government are now encouraging.
We except the lack of facility supplied by the local council and the regular power surges we have when its too hot ,cold windy etc as this is the trade off we made to enjoy being able to own a home for the family and the bonus is to enjoy the peacefulness of a small community.
You can then understand how angry we feel that a Gas Plant Power Station is being planned to be located approximately 4 kms from our doorstep and we would see no benefit to our community . Please do not think that because money will be allocated to the council, that this will benefit us. As i believe that the moneys has to be applied for .Which going by the lack of any kind off improvements that have been invested by the council in Dalton over the last 10 years we have been here is WHAT ???( Please do not say water as this will start another issue )
The importance of the environment is a big issue at this time in Australia as a whole and i find it hard to believe that the noise and environmental pollution would not have an impact . From world news coverage we know that once this has gone it is not easily repaired if ever.
Residence of Dalton have been pleased to find some rare species of Southern Pygmy Perch ,Yellow Spotted Bell Frog and have invested there time to preserve there natural habit for Australians to be able to enjoy.
I agree that Australia needs to improve on the production of power but for us as a family this is not the right way . Investment into greener solutions would be money better well spent AGL.

I object to the dalton power plant all the environment document do not apply today it was done 7 years ago. properties have been bought and construction has been done . The pollution will sit in our town all day in winter causing major health problems. No aboriginal survey has been done there has been a finding of a endangered pigmi perch found in the creek on the site. I live 1.8 kilometers from the agl site i will hear and feel the turbines. Everyone's house and land will depreciate. I strongly object to this project

The community distrusts them. This has been acknowledged by the Department of Planning who noted AGL's appalling community consultation.
AGL have not supplied adequate time for an appropriate response.
AGL will rely on an Environmental Assessment that is 7 years old and does not include recent discoveries including the population of endangered Southern Pygmy Perch in Oolong Creek less than a few kilometres from the proposed construction.
This is a new proposal and needs a new assessment. AGL received its original approval under legislation repealed in 2011 after a corruption scandal that brought down the then NSW government. By repealing this legislation, the NSW Government acknowledged corrupt and unfair practices, such as undisclosed political donations made during the assessment of the original Dalton proposal and for which AGL have been convicted and fined. Hence it may be argued that the original assessment and approval were made under a defective head of authority which does not provide a legitimate basis for the project.
The rate of development of battery and alternative generating technologies is such that in two years' time a gas-fired generator may well be obsolete and, if built, a stranded asset.
AGL would appear to be pursuing a flawed and obsolescent if not obsolete business model. The whole-of-life cost of this project to the government and citizens of NSW may be an impediment to growth in this state. This proposed development is at odds with the electricity market now and in the future.
Finally the construction of this power plant will close down the business of Vince & Janet Heffernan at "Moorlands" Dalton who supply me and my family lamb. I object to this loss and this destruction of their business.

Dalton Gas Powered Power Station MOD 1.

I have lived in the district for 6 years, two years ago we purchased our dream property within the Dalton township, we are three weeks shy of moving into a brand new home, the last couple of weeks have been a nightmare, with AGL rearing its ugly head over this plant that they want to build. We had no idea that this was on the horizon, and I would pick that none of the 36 properties sold in the last five years did either. The most that we knew was AGL had stopped the project. To say we are scared and feel sick to the stomach about what this plant will do to our small community and surrounding district. The noise, air pollution, damage to fauna and wildlife and visual of the site would be catastrophic to all involved. After much research into the effects on all of the families we know that our homes will devalue significantly, being that we are older first home builders, who planned to retire in Dalton, please leave our little town alone.

I write to you to formally object to AGL's extension of time lapse application. Five years is long enough for any energy company to dither and prevaricate.

I object to this proposal on the grounds that the proposed power plant will pollute the atmosphere, destroy the peace through noise pollution and ruin good agricultural land.

Dalton is a peaceful rural community which I have come to love. Power plants are massive industrial complexes, with buildings, stacks, and other structures on a scale that often dwarfs everything nearby. Because of this, this power plant will be seen from far away, and will irreparably harm the rural views that are highly valued by the local community. Nearby homes and sites of historic significance will devalued because of the plant's inappropriate size, use, and architecture. Cooling tower plumes will create yet another visual impact that the Dalton community will find abhorrent.

Too often, power plants are sited in poor communities and foisting this plant on Dalton is a prime example of that. Old industrial sites - preferably outdated, dirty power plants - should always be the site of choice over a `greenfield´ - a site that is in its natural condition. The universe of community concerns, including environmental and health-related issues, must never be dismissed without an extremely compelling case for power need. The community has not been consulted properly. Was the Dalton community and district in its entirety asked if it wanted this power plant on its door step? No. There was no real consultation. I myself found out about the time lapse application by accident. Consultation doe snot mean a shallow process after which decisions the community does not want are forced on it.

This power plant will not be sustainable. Power plants use fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, and natural gas, which are finite in supply. These fuels cause a variety of health and environmental problems and are not a long-term solution to energy needs. As these fuels become harder to find, prices will rise and political problems associated with market manipulation from domestic and overseas sources will only increase.

I hold significant fears for the long term health and well being of the Dalton and Gunning community and, of course, the ongoing viability of the region itself as prime sheep country, a growing eco-tourism area and a haven and home to Canberra commuters. This concern extends to people, livestock, environment, ecology (the endangered native Pygmy Perch has been found in the area) local farms and local businesses.

In addition and also I write to utterly oppose the proposed power plant's location a mere four kilometres from Dalton NSW. This plant obtained approval under bad - and now superseded - NSW planning laws. AGL has been fined for making illegal political donations on four occasions to get the tick for this power plant. Has not NSW had enough corruption already? Five years is too long to allow this project to go ahead.

Did the power plant's application take into account that the Dalton-Gunning Zone, only 60 km north of Canberra, "has been assessed as one of the highest hazard earthquake areas in eastern Australia"*. Three earthquakes with Richter magnitudes of 5.5 or greater are known to have occurred, during the last 130 years, in November 1886, November 1934 and March 1949. All three were felt strongly in the Canberra area. In the 1934 earthquake, practically every brick and stone building in Gunning was damaged and the event was felt over much of SE New South Wales. The earthquake was the culmination of a week-long series of foreshocks. It was followed by a long series of aftershocks which were felt strongly as far as Cooma, 160 km away. Was this geological instability and the siting of a power plant near a forty year-old gas pipeline taken into account?

I've read about AGL' s application regarding an extension to work on a proposed gas fired power plant at Dalton and I wish to lodge my objection.

My concerns include issues relating to the impact of the project on the local area and wider community and the environment.

The real need for the energy produced from such a project is also in doubt. Researched reports have been published by consulting groups such as Beyond Zero Emissions and Zero Carbon Australia which indicate the diminishing need for such technology. They draw on national and international experience and data, demonstrating that the changes in technology are making the need for so much electricity from such sources is less necessary. Recent developments in battery storage and alternative electricity generation make such a scheme unnecessary, and it might be the generating plant becomes obsolete within just a few years.

There is not sufficent reason to develop this plant. I also object to the construction of this fpower plant as it will affect local people and businesses. I buy my meat from Vince and Janet Heffernan at "Moorlands" Dalton. This plant will destroy thier business.
