I remain opposed to the development at this location. I do believe that a new stadium should be built, however, I cannot support the stadium being built in this location.
I do not support for the following reasons:
- Lack of initial consultation and subsequent poor community consultation in determining the site.
- Loss of green space.
- Loss of playing space for other sporting codes. The Wests club are already severly impacted by soccer, lpoor lighting, weather and less than adequate facilities. I feel that this would impact even more and may lead to the demise of our historical club. Our clun is already trying to accomodate for girls in our code and this will not help us encourage more girls in league.
- Loss of amenity for nearby residents
- Loss of evacuation space, playing space, recreation space for Lambton High School. Lambton HS students will be severely impacted by this change.
- Severe flooding impacts, the current ovals act as flood overflow and the 90% concrete replacing will cause flooding impacts on nearby residents in Monash Rd, Gloucester Ave, Duke St, Marina Ave etc.
- Severe parking impacts on nearby residents (Newcastle Basketball’s reports explicitly state that nearby streets can and will absorb traffic overflow).
- Traffic issues on Turton Rd from entry and exit of hundreds of vehicles to and from the stadium.
I also have serious concerns that Newcastle Basketball cannot afford to build the stadium and will be reliant upon further funding sources. This has been detailed well in a Newcastle Herald article today.

The Newcastle community is in desperate need of a new indoor multi sports facility, the cure proposed located is and dit for purpose and the new facility MUST go ahead. The new facility takes into account a range of sports including basketball, volleyball, badminton, netball, futsal, and pickleball. The basketball community in particular has outgrown the current facilities with many many children and families missing out on playing due to number caps. The current facility is due to be decommission in 2years so new a needs a home within the local LGA, that is accessible and inclusive . It makes complete sense that the new facility is part of the Broad meadow sports precinct envisioned by NCC. It's such a disgrace that NIMBYism by a small minority of people living in the local LGA has hijacked and delayed the new facility progress , a facility that would benefit the entire community.

Our kids are in desperate need for new basketball facilities! There is an overwhelming number of kids wanting to play basketball in Newcastle and these kids should be given the same opportunities that kids in other cities are given. This stadium is still in the same condition to what it was when I was a child and I’m now 42years old. We have travelled to many cities this year representing Newcastle Falcons and our facilities compared to somewhere like Tamworth is really lacking. I’m too Lambton High school is behind this development as are the cricket and soccer associations however the Lambton High P&C is not. As a parent at with 2 children at Lambton High I have never been asked for our opinions from the P&C.
Please do this for our kids, they deserve it.

My kids have played basketball for 10 years now and it’s embarrassing playing at Broadmeadow. The courts are so outdated and nothing seems to work very well. There are so many more kids playing now than when we first started. It’s time to give this city something to be proud of rather than what the poor kids have to go through now.

The basketball stadium is a place that needs to go somewhere and the reality is that places are limited. It also provides an opportunity for the school to be able to play indoor sports . This could include basketball indoor cricket soccer etc. the reality is for the government to get the broadmeadow project up and running some hard decisions are going to be made this is the first one and the government need to make. Otherwise it has to go out to Glendale.

This needs to go ahead for the thousands of kids who play basketball in the Hunter Region. Newcastle Basketball not be without a stadium and the Government owes it to them.

As a Newcastle representative basketball coach, I strongly support the proposed Hunter Indoor Sports Centre development. The current stadium is outdated and struggles to meet the needs of our growing community. Too often, children and families miss out on opportunities simply because there aren’t enough courts or the weather prevents play. Furthermore there is significant urgency given that the existing stadium will soon be demolished.

The new HISC will change this. With modern facilities and increased capacity, it will allow more young people to stay active, engaged, and connected through sport. Importantly, it won’t just serve basketball — it will provide space for futsal, pickleball, volleyball, netball, tennis, and more, making it a genuine community hub.

This project will deliver wide benefits: healthier lifestyles, youth engagement, talent pathways, inclusion, and stronger social connections across Newcastle and the Hunter. It is an investment in both our children and the future of our city.

I urge you to support this development wholeheartedly.

We have so many kids in desperate need of a new Basketball stadium. Not only for the Sport to thrive in our town, but for me most importantly it give kids a safe place to enjoy the game they love. You can have the view of all the revenue the new stadium will bring with more competitions being held in Newcastle with the new facilty being built. But for me its were our Community all have a chance to create new friends in a safe enviroment.
