the Piliga forest must not be intruded upon with gas mining. gas pipelines and coal seam gas extraction is a destructive and toxic process. the burning of fossil gas is poisonous and dangerous to the environment and human health. this destructive and disgusting and dangerous mining disaster must not proceed. the Piliga forest is a national treasure that must be left as it is and the indigenous values must not be disturbed.
so please do your job properly and protect the forest.

I am very concerned at the total disrespect shown to the Gomeroi people, who have strongly opposed every aspect of this project, from the extensive gasfields proposed by Santos, to this pipeline proposed to service the gasfields, on the grounds of the social, cultural, environmental and heritage value of the Pilliga and the Bohena Creek to traditional owners, and the destruction and damage that the pipeline will cause to important local cultural sites. It seems nothing has been learned from the devastating losses at Juukan Gorge, which were condemned across the world. I am also very worried about the impact on ground water as the Pilliga Forest is an important recharge area for the Great Artesian Basin, and as global temperatures are rising, and frequency of droughts increasing, this is a time we need to be protecting water supplies and stores, not putting them at risk. The Narrabri Pipeline is a key part of the infrastructure needed to service Santos' gasfields, which will contribute significantly to NSW greenhouse gas emissions. I believe the EIS needs to be amended to take account of these emissions. We cannot keep pretending that we are working on reducing emissions while approving projects that will increase and extend emissions for decades to come. Last but not least, I understand that there are several local species that will be threatened by the removal of habitat in the forest clearance needed for the pipleline. Australia already has a very poor record in relation to species extinctions over the last 240 years; it is within our power to change this. I do not believe this project should proceed.

The impacts from this project will be too detrimental to the Pilliga forest and farming land. Construction requires clearing of 168 hectares of forest and a further 30 metre wide swathe to be cut through the forest. This is is unacceptable!! Threatened species will be impacted including the Pilliga Mouse, Eastern pygmy possum, and Corben’s Long-eared Bat. Farm land will also be impacted and almost half of this land is agricultural. It is more valuable to keep this land for crops.
The Narrabri lateral pipeline will also impact Gomeroi cultural heritage including Bohena Creek, and will destroy two sites of Aboriginal significance and impact another 4 sites.
The Environmental Impact Statement needs to be redone to consider the carbon emissions from the project. Unfortuatenly, Narrabri is predicted to be the sixth biggest source of greenhouse pollution in NSW. This is unacceptable!!

Submission opposing Santos’ Narrabri Lateral Pipeline
I am opposed to this pipeline for many reasons including the environmental impact on the immediate area and on Greenhouse Gas emissions more broadly and for the damage that will be done to the land of the Gomeroi people and their cultural heritage.
Environmentally, we need to stop burning more fossil fuels adding to climate change which is already affecting our liveable climate and creating bigger and greater storm events, flooding, fires and causing sea level rise at an alarming rate. Narrabri is predicted to be the sixth biggest source of greenhouse pollution in NSW. The EIS prepared for Santos should be amended to consider the full negative economic impacts of the greenhouse gas emissions from the gas field and the two pipelines. It is likely to be very significant.
The pipeline will cross 12 farms and disturb agricultural land in the process. Much of this land is for growing crops. It will negatively affect the farmers of the region.
168 hectares of quality forest will be destroyed with a 30-metre-wide swathe cut through the East forest and disturbing all the creatures that live in the forest including risking the already threatened species such as the Pilliga Mouse, the Eastern pygmy possum, and Corben’s Long-eared Bat along with many species of microbats and other small mammals.
The Pilliga has deep spiritual, social and cultural significance for Gomeroi people. The National Native Title Tribunal acknowledged that all water resources, and Bohena Ck in particular, is of major cultural importance to Gomeroi people. The Tribunal said there should be no ground or surface disturbance within 500m of Bohena Ck without Gomeroi consent, however, Santos plans to drill the pipeline right under Bohena Ck and across six other major creeks, disturbing the alluvial groundwater. The EIS does not discuss the cultural significance of Bohena Ck for Gomeroi people.
Construction of the pipeline will also wipe out two known sites of significance and damage a further four sites. Gomeroi people have said the Pilliga’s integrity is central to their wellbeing and cultural practice and must be kept whole.
I oppose this project in its entirety.
Yours sincerely

I support this project. Responsible development of gas resources via the Narrabri gas project is critical to achieve supply of reliable and affordable energy.
