Design Guidelines for Koala-Exclusion Fencing


The NSW Government is committed to protecting koalas in south-west Sydney.

The draft Design Guidelines for Koala-exclusion Fencing were on exhibition from 14 March to 11 April 2025.

The draft guidelines included guidance for landholders, developers and consent authorities on the best-practice design and location of koala exclusion fencing.

Thank you to everyone who provided their feedback. Your input will help inform the final guidelines and how fencing is implemented across south-west Sydney. The final guidelines will be released in late 2025.

Drawings are provided as examples only to help demonstrate the design features of koala-exclusion fencing. Project-specific drawings must be developed for projects.
