Following the release of the Retail Expert Advisory Committee’s Independent Recommendations Report, the Department of Planning and Environment is proposing an amendment to the definition of ‘bulky goods premises’ in the Standard Instrument Local Environmental Plan (SILEP). The proposed amendment will remove the requirement to provide both a large floor area and direct vehicular access, by replacing ‘and’ with ‘or’. This means that bulky goods retailers will only need to provide one of the requirements to satisfy the definition, but may choose to provide both.
