As a person who grew up at Havilah, just to the west of Lue, I strongly protest the Bowdens Silver Mine near Lue. This mine serves as a short-term economic gain for a small few people and leaves a whole community with potentially devastating environmental impacts forever. We live in a beautiful part of the world and to have such vibrant and tourism and agricltural industries put at risk because of the Silver Mine seems incredibly short-sighted by the regulating bodies. As a man who in the near future will be bringing a young family back to the country and living downstream of the mine, I am concerned also at the negative health effects the dust and water pollution will have on my young children. What a shame for this mine to go ahead so faceless corporates can fill their pockets at the expense of our land, our health and our livelihoods. I urge you to reconsider this proposal by Bowdens and look to the long-term prosperity of the Mudgee region. Farmland is being destroyed every day, we need to preserve every spuare metre we can to ensure the health and wellbeing of our economy and the ability to do our part to feed the world. Should the Silver Mine go ahead, it will devastate our small, tight-knit community and the wider Mudgee region, potentially destroying vast areas of farmland and ruining our burgeoning tourism industry. Mining has been great for the Mudgee region and has bought incredible wealth, however a small Silver mine in such a sensitive area with huge, long-lasting negative impacts seems to be an irrational decision.

I hope you consider all our submissions and imagine if you were in the same boat, everything you ever owned could be ruined for short-term gain of a few people you will never see or meet.

kind regards,

Richie Inglis

I support the Bowdens Silver project for the reasons set out below.
1. The mining industry is an important element of the diversified economy on which the Mudgee (Mid-Western) region relies. The region's renowned prosperity is largely due to the significantly diversified economy. The approval of a silver mine would create even more diversity in the regional economy due to silver's importance as an essential component of solar power production, complementing the region's other mining operations which produce fossil fuels.
2. The silver to be produced at Bowdens Silver mine would be used in renewable energy generation, thereby directly contributing to the reduction of Australia's greenhouse gas emissions.
3. All aspects of the Bowdens Silver operation would be regulated by world's best statutory regulatory regime and environmental and safety standards.
4. The Bowdens Silver operation would generate high quality, long term, safe employment which will be an important underpinning to local prosperity, contrasting with the seasonal, lower paid, less safe and less secure employment often associated with rural and hospitality industry jobs.
5. The Bowdens Silver project would create employment opportunities close to the town of Kandos which currently has high unemployment and associated disadvantage, due to the recent closure of industries which had historically been major local employers. This would enable local youth to remain within local communities instead of having to move away to find work.

I support the project because major employers like this help keep country towns alive. We need more investment into regional areas and this project is the perfect example of something that will stimulate parts of regional NSW

I attach a note indicating considerable reservations which I have about the development of this mine in a dominantly grazing area . The mine will have a finite life and my concern is that after it has been abandoned , it will render the are occupied by it and surrounding land useless for any further agriculture .
