I am a local resident who strongly objects to this development.

The development of Darling Harbour over the past 100 years has managed to maintain a relatively low rise corridor on the western side of the Sydney CBD. The current proposal involves the conversion of the existing public space occupied by the Entertainment Centre into Commercial High Rise Apartments that will destroy this corridor. This will set a precedent for other similar high rise developments in the area. For example, apartments over the Imax Theatre and an increase in height of the Novatel Rockford Darling Harbour. Once this space is sold to commercial interests it will restrict more imaginative uses of this site in the future.

This development is being pushed by the need for a larger Convention complex to attract more overseas business. I am not convinced that this development will achieve this goal. If it is so important than why wasn't a more integrated structure completed on the larger Barangaroo site. There are also serious concerns about altered vehicle and foot traffic in this area caused by this development. This has received limited coverage in their submission.

Please see my full submission in the attachment.

Best Regards,
Graeme

This is very bad planning with too many towers overshadowing the rest of Haymarket without any setback on Hay St. The traffic on Darling Drive and Ultimo Road will be very bad,

I object to this development in its current proposal, a PDF document is attached. I also object to the involvement of Lend Lease in the project. I believe they paid only lip service to the consultancy process. I would like to see any other company complete this development.

The proposed development exceeds all rational boundaries of density, view sharing, shading and infrastructure.

I object to the development on the grounds of outlook and view hogging by the proposed development. In addition, the roads are clogged now as is.

More thought is required to avoid a planning disaster.

I attach my submission detailing my objections.

Dear Sir,
I object to SSD 5752, Sydney International Convention, Exhibition and Entertainment Precinct - Redevelopment of convention centre, exhibition centre, entertainment facilities and associated public domain works.

This proposal has many problems.
It places private interest before public interest.
It grabs now public land for private use.
It screams over development of a very small area.
It proposes to demolish perfectly good structures that are only 25 years old and of architectural merit, to be replaced with a similar size building with blocks of flats on top.
The proposal to make to the ONLY access road into Darling Harbour 2 lanes only to allow for the building of student accomodation is a recipe for disaster and years of traffic congestion, choking the already clogged roads around Haymarket. Evacuation of Darling Harbour should it ever be necessary will be impossible. Should there ever be a terrorist threat we will not be able to vacate the area.

The City of Sydney council has proposed to further reduce the amount of traffic in Thomas st and Ultimo Roads, creating even more congestion.

Guidelines for building development have been completely ignored.

No vertical shadow diagrams have been done to show the impact of the 9 blocks of flats that will be built sky high on such a small site.

These are just a few of my concerns and more thoroughly detailed in the attached document.
