I object to the size and scope of the proposal for SSD 5878. The height and density of the towers are of great concern. In previous Master plans for the development, an integrated and open space was promised that connected the different avenues from Central station, Chinatown, UTS and Ultimo to Darling Harbour. Building heights were also in keeping with surrounding structures. With the current proposal, the crowding and height of the tower blocks in the 'Haymarket' precinct seem to ignore those ideals and will produce a 'ghetto' like interior void of openness and greenery.
I am most concerned about the heights and size of the tower blocks. As a resident in the Peak Apartments, what is now a beautiful view north from Darling Harbour to the main harbour and beyond will be severely impacted by the proposed buildings (according to the EIS). There will be no view corridor left if the plans go ahead. All we will see are windows into another apartment.
It will be detrimental to our property values but more importantly, the sense of pride and peace of this city will be lost. Please consider our concerns when reviewing the submission for SSD 5878. Whilst we do not object to a redevelopment of the area, a project so densely packed, so high and without consideration into how it will affect existing residents in surrounding areas should not be permitted.
I have also included a copy of a group submission that I agree with.
Thank you.
