I am supportive of the project to build a bridge from Wentworth Point to Rhodes as I am regular cyclist who uses the area. I am however disappointed to see that a separate bicycle lane is not to be provided on the bridge.

The Environmental Assessment documentation indicates that a two way bus lane, separate bicycle lane and separate pedestrian lane were considered as Option 2a. I feel that this should be the preferred option, not 2c (two way bus lane shared with cyclists, plus a separate pedestrian path), for the following reasons:

 The pedestrian lane of the bridge is to contain rest stops and shade covers. These elements will reduce the width of the lane, narrowing it, and is not conducive for cyclists as it may cause conflict areas as a cyclist navigates around pedestrians moving to and from these structures.

 Cyclists who do not feel comfortable cycling on the road with the buses will be forced to use the pedestrian path, however will still travel faster than pedestrians, there is a high potential for conflicts between various users.

 Forcing pedestrians to use the bus lane does not encourage people to cycle, who may be confident cyclists, but prefer not to cycle on the road.

 Cyclists using the bus lane will travel at a slower pace than the buses. This will cause conflict with the bus drivers and encourage overtaking, potentially creating accidents and risky situations.

 Combining cyclists with the pedestrian lane and with the bus lane will not promote a safe link.

The executive summary states that the bridge is needed to encourage more attractive options for walking, cycling and public transport. I don't believe the bridge in its current form will encourage more cycling. The provision of a separate bicycle lane will alleviate all of the above concerns and encourage more people to cycle as a form of transport.

Considering the surrounding area already has a great network of bicycle lanes it would be very disappointing if this bridge was constructed without a separate bicycle lane.

Regards,
Emily.

This safe cycle path, free from cars is a great idea. I would use it every day. Safety concerns are the biggest reason I do not use my bike for many more short trips so a cycle path free from cars would enable me fast and safe trips. It would be a boost to our area.

Thank you!

The SMH report states that it will be a

"11-metre wide bridge that will have one lane running in each direction to be shared by buses and cyclists,"

Cyclists and buses are not really compatible in the same lane. Having ridden along Miller st, North Sydney with buses breathing down my neck is not much fun.

Expecting kids & the inexperienced to share a lane with buses is not a good idea.

This will be a great addition to the Homebush Bay area. The area is already a good place for cycling, but this will make it even better. It's also a massive step in creating an alternate bike route between the city and Parramatta. Currently, if you want to do this trip it's via heavily-used routes such as Parramatta Road. If you combined this with a bridge over Duck River and a path connecting Grand Avenue Clyde to Silverwater Park and it would create a much quieter alternate route for cyclists.

I object to the bridge on the basis that it is too low for a RiverCat to pass underneath at maximum high tide. While the dimensions are very hard to read on the plans on exhibition, it appears the bridge is at least 3 metres to low for public transport ferries to pass underneath.

While the present Government may have no plans for public transport ferry services up to Olympic Park, it does not mean no provision should be made for ferry services in the future.

An extra half metre, above that required for maximum high tide, should be added to the minimum height requirement for possible sea level rise in the next 100 years.

Allowing for public transport ferries to pass under will have very little impact on the bridge and its cost and and be barely noticeable for bridge users.

I support this project. There are so many parklands and plants around. If the bridge is built, it will reduce the travel distance between Homebush Bay and Rhodes and also reduce the car exhaust.

I strongly recommend to have that bridge to connect Rhodes with Wentworth Point, not only its much more convenient for the resident at Wentworth Point to go shopping at Rhodes, but also for the resident from Rhodes to go to Wentworth point in the future!

It is important to have the two areas connected closely to share the benefits and solve the shortages each other . Wentworth Point owns natural environmental treasures and Rhodes provides convienient pubilic transport and shoppings. This bridge will bring up the utility of current pubilic transport and shopping facility therefore reduce emission.

I completely support the building of the wentworth point bridge. As a future resident in close proximity to the bridge, it would not only bring a strong positive outcome through convenience for residents and workers in the area, but also attract local and international visitors day and night from its uplift.

Soon I'll be a resident of Wentworth Point. I strongly support the planning of bridge, which would be more flexibility for local & take train at Rhodes, left car at home to help our environment.

By micro view, more economical for people with public transport, rather than private car. saving time to work, increasing productivity. more easy access shopping centre opposite

more & more ... ... ... ...
